I bought a secondhand set of Remus headers for my 12 and I'm really happy with them in conjunction with the Accelerator module and the Akrapovic can. From a "Seat of the Pants" feel, the bike is running sweetly and better on low speed pick up and drive. The only issue I have is the colour they have gone. The RH side (yes, the dreaded right hand pot side) has gone a nice shade of purple, whereas the left side is a golden brown.

The purple colour is most prominent on a straight line where the exhaust gases come out so I'm thinking one side is running hotter than the other. I don't mind either colour in the slightest, but looking at the bike head on its quite disconcerting - well it is for this owner anyway. The OEM exhaust ran the same colour on both (blueish/gold/brown), but that had a balance pipe and a cat which may or may not make a difference.

When I switched the headers over I was careful not to damage the Lambda sensors, but if I had, would it simply fail or give an incorrect reading back to the ECU? Or could it simply be subtle differences in the pipe's thickness?

Any ideas or anyone else who bought Remus headers new have the same?

Cheers for any enlightenment.

Mine look like this. Various shades of blue, brown, grey. Adds character.

I'm suffering some misfiring at times and am fiddling with my Techclusion box, but as the tail pipe is slightly sooty I reckon I'm not overheating, so sleep easy.

My concern is not the colour of the pipes, just that they are vastly different. To my mind this is indicating that the RH pot is running hotter (leaner) than the LH pot. My concern would be that somehow I damaged one of the Lambda sensors when removing them, however, I did take great care. If I had damaged one, would the "brain" see this as a total failure and warn with an error or can you partially damage one to give a false reading which may make that pot run hotter and ultimately damage the valves or more?

Or might it simply be the headers are of unequal thicknesses? I polished up the headers last night and my plan is to switch the Lambda sensors over to opposite headers and see what if anything changes. Thats if I can work out again how to disconnect the connectors which seem far more complicated than they should be to disconnect.

Have you whipped the spark plugs out for a look? Plug colour can be a good indicator of how an engine is running. They will be obviously different if one pot is running much hotter than the other. If black soot wipes off on yer finger, it's on the 'too rich' side. White hot with melted tips? You're a wee bit lean :)

No, have not looked at the plugs yet, but swapped the Lambda sensors over tonight. The soot on both were an identical light grey so I'm inclined to think the cylinders are running the same - will see any difference tomorrow after a decent run out.
