Air filters

Has anyone tried removing the airbox and putting individual filters on each side ?:grndevil

How do you pass an MOT on emissions

OK,
Silly question time (especially as I have a 941100 no Cat)
Having removed the cat and the standard silencer how do you get through an MOT at the dealers. Everytime mine goes in the are using some sort of rectal thingy on it to check the emissions. Do you have to bolt the standard kit back on for the day?

There is no emissions test on motorcycles at present. You may, however, fail the MOT if you don't have a road-legal silencer.
Therefore, in two years time, I will replace my Genesis Titanium race can with the stock can, just for the day.

Here's my tuppence worth. (1150)

First off, fitted a K&N air filter which made the bike feel much more responsive.

Second, fitted Remus Y piece improved sound and felt as though there was more mid range grunt with shot gun backfire.

Third, added a Remus race pipe, it drones a bit at low speeds, sounds glorious under accelaration and orgasmic on the overrun. Sometimes replaced with original for comfort on long trips and/or consideration for others when the mood takes me.
Perhaps slight top end improvement.

But I don't run around race tracks with accurate stop watches or have my engine 'dynoed', rather rely on how it makes me feel which after all is why I bought the bike in the first place.

Regarding the CAT, I think BMW are playing the environmental/emissions mind game and are a step ahead of any legislation. Just what non renewable resources are used in the construction of a catalytic converter and how does that balance against added emissions?
Of course we could all only use our bikes for essential journeys, and I for one regard every mile on a GS not to mention every decibel as absolutely essential!

back fire

I have recently fitted the bb power chip.

Amongst the badly interpreted German is a recommendation to remove the lamda sensor to reduce back fire.

It also describes an airbox modification by shortening the feed tubes into the fuel injection system.

any thoughts ?

MOT

Some places will turn a blind eye to none eu end cans.

My local chap just smiles when he sees my akropovic full system on my bandit 1200.

Conversation goes like .... well I could waste a few hours swapping back the original system just for your benefit.....!!

same here, my vfr400 has a well fruity Technical Sports exhaust on it. Come MOT time, the guy i go to just checks that theres nothing wrong with the bike and writes the ticket. Most bike shops aren't as anally rententive about this sort of thing as car MOT places, who see MOT's as a chance to sell you stuff you don't need/want.

Catalysts....

The pollution produced from the manufacture and disposal of a cat is far greater than the reduction in harful gases produced by car/bike.

Also the heavy metals (from the catalyst) that come out of a broken cat cause far more problems than the lead in 'real' petrol.

A lot of environemental stuff is done for the wrong reasons (and much of it should not be done).... a lot of it is knee jerk reaction.

You keep talking b0ll0cks about the lambda sensor being removed. Bernie told me this wasn't to be done and the instructions do not state this at all. Please read it and tell me where the ffuucckk is says it. BBPower instructions

When you give people information make sure it's accurate or otherwise people will think that you haven't got a clue about anything, which I am sure isn't the case.

Except about lambda probes and the BBpower chip.

City Slicker,

I must have the same instructions as Bandit. They definitely say that disconnecting the Lambda sensor reduces backfire and improves fuel economy.

The November issue of bike has an 1150 GS with a remus can and graphs, shows a horrible dip in the curve, any technos have any coments, I could scan and post it if anyone wants to see it?

I'm thinking about fitting the whole Remus kit and caboodle for fuel in remote places reason - thats enough justification for me ;)

Also as a recent convert from Jap bikes its just habit to junk the torpedo they all come fitted with a slip on something slinky and expensive. Helps people know you are there don't cha know? :shoot:

having said that I don't go for the buzz saw row that some makes seem to go for - anyone who has heard a race Blue Flame system on a Jap four will know what I mean. Remus have a good rep so looks like thats where my money s going

You never mentioned if you removed the motronic code plug when you fitted the remus system.Code plug not required if no cat fitted?

Kenny
To remove or not remove. That is the question.
Seem s every one has different opinions.
Removing will cause it to run richer.
Not removeing wiil keep it running lean.
Which is best,I dont know but if you take the surging question, every ones bike seems to be different. Some surge more than others and some dont at all.
Probably the way the bike performs with or without the plug when the cat is removed depends on the individual bike.
Personally if your just changing the y piece and/or can Id keep it in.
If fitting a BB power chip aswell Id remove it.

Just my personal view but Im open minded about this one.

BB chip

When you fit the BB chip they give you a new code plug, (actually its a piece of wire with 2 spade terminals)

There is a diagram on how to connect depending on the set up, ie with y piece and race can, standard, there is also a setting for running on low quality fuel.

Dave

Here is a Dyno chart taken from the Remus website for the R1150GS. What do you guys think that have tried this setup as the gains look a bit to good to be true.

I've just applied that test to your post & it didn't score highly......

Mark, agree,, don't have f#@##g clue what you're on about but...
if i was sensible i wouldn't even have a car let alone a bike, i'd catch a bus or walk and wear an anorak
I got the full monty y piece and race can, sounds great, don't really give a toss if it adds a couple of bhp, backfires on demand and annoys the bosses at work (the local nick)
Bloody marvellous stuff. (Take it to Switzerland where they hate noise and anti authority etc

woo hoo

Got the Remus can on with the NOT FOR ROAD USE etched into it
and the sound is only fuggin great, odd backfire on over runs wheeeeeeeeee now it sounds like it was meant to. Fitted the crash bars as well and thankfully the bike still fits through the gates! .
Dont care whether it gives me any more power or fixes the surging it just has to be done.

Nick
