I have read most of the threads about fitting a Remus & Y piecs and altering the CCP settings and some of the problems that have cropped up with too weak mixture, etc. My question is that many have experienced popping and banging on the over-run both before and after fitting a can. Did your bikes backfire BEFORE changing the exhaust set-up or AFTER?

Either way, this suggests (to me) that the mixture is too weak and/or there is an air leak in the exhaust system. I intend fitting a Y piece & and a baffled Remus with a K&N filter very soon and I intend using Steptoe's CCP settings. Any comments? Am I heading in the right direction? I don't intend "chipping" my 1150.

my bike had K&N, y-piece & std. silencer when i got it, no CCP, and it backfired occasionally.

i put on a remus revolution & it backfired more.

steptoe CCP link fitted: very nice power & occasional backfire.

techlusion fitted & it backfired about the same.

BB chip fitted, still backfires now & then. maybe a little less with the baffle out.

in all cases tends to backfire on the overun more if revved at a standstill. personally, i think removing the cat is the problem in this respect, huge ammount of back pressure removed. may need new valve timing to cure.
