Can anyone recommend a good battery for my F800GS... which is 'as good as the BMW one...'!? :augie

£105 for BMW certified one? More expensive than I thought.

Many thanks

choice here if you click other brands http://www.tayna.co.uk/SVR-14-P4096.html

I'd go for the Westco at £56.20

or take a punt on the Lucas batteries that seem to have appeared recently. I've no idea if they are any good or just some Chinese crap using the brand. Cheap though at £36 delivered http://www.batterybayuk.co.uk/produ...cle_Battery_including_Acid_Pack_MC-LU-YTX14BS

Tayna are a know, reliable quantity. The other firm is a random URL from google, cheap though!

battery..

Chas820 and Wessie, many thanks for your reply.

Do you know how the Tanyo battery compares the the approved BMW battery performance..? Is there a difference?

I also spoke to BMW yesterday and they told me that (contrary to my understanding) I didn't need to re-programme the service schedule as this information was stored in the hard disk of the bike and doesn't need to be reset....

Cheers

There's nothing special about the BMW battery, apart from the price. It is made by one of the main brands who stick a BMW roundel on it. Currently their preferred supplier seems to be Exide but that could change as they have used Varta and others in the past.

The Westco is a recognised brand with a good reputation and the AGM construction has advantages as it won't leak if the bike has a little lie down (BMW branded battery is the same) and has good cold weather performance. Tayna as a retailer also has a decent reputation. Hence my recommendation.

TBH a battery's a battery ...

Just get a mid-range MF battery, it'll last as long as the OE battery but will cost about a third of the price ...

Just be careful when you swap them over cos (as has been said) unless the OE one has already died and left you with insufficient power to maintain the 'memory' you'll get the SERVICE light flashing if you disconnect the battery completely...
