I've just got the bike back with its third BMW replacement battery and it sure has more power for starting. It is an up graded battery and they say it has 10% more power.

Let's hope it lasts more than 10% longer than your last three :D

Odyssey Battery PC 535 Confirmed it fits

In another one of these threads, I found reference to the Odyssey batteries, namely PC 535 and PC 545. I ordered the kit from wunderlich (you have to go on the german site to order it - it doesnt appear on the english site).
To find the link on german site follow these instructions:-

a) Goto www.wunderlich.de
b) Click BMW (top left)
c) Click Shop
d) Click Hp2
e) In the text field type "odyssey", then click on the suchen button
You should now see "Reinblei-Batterie" Order no 8200017
Thats what you want:thumb

You get everything in the box required to fit the battery whilst still retaining all the gizmos that sit on top of the battery. (Gizmos are relay, diagnostic plug and auxillary plug). You get an instruction sheet on how to fit it, its in black and white and not 100% clear how everything goes, so I looked on their website to see a clearer version here http://www.wunderlich.de/manuals/1900112_eng.pdf

It took me 4.5 hours to install. A lot of the time was trying to work out how to get the battery in, also once in, how to get the main clamp on. (the clamp slides in from the rear I found out!).
In order to install the battery you need to
1. Remove old battery including clamps
2. Removed the rear wheel
3. Remove the air damper (I had to buy a 18mm open ended spanner, if you dont have the torqx end, buy that too).
4. Remove the plastic cable ties that attach the plastic mudguard to the frame (the instructions dont mention that). I removed 4 of them, 2 each sidfe from the lower mudguard. That way I managed to get the battery located.
5. The instructions dont mention it, but the pictures show, that the polaritys are reversed. That is, the positive goes on the right side (this is opposite to the original). I dont know if thats whats supposed to be.
6. Once I worked out how to do it, I slotted the main clamp in from the rear. It took a bit of thinking (I had too many beers the night before). The other clamp is a strangle looking one, holds the gizmos. Screw that on to the main clamp.
7. NowYou take the original diagnostic and plug and bolt it on the gizmo clamp. Stick a bit of foam (supplied) to the top of the battery and add the last clamp. That clamp holds the battery firm in place.
8. Connect battery leads (a bit of a pain, requires a bit of bending of the terminals). Its not a great solution, I will tidy it up next.
9. Put back air damper and wheel.

It starts real easy now, a lot of grunt from this battery. The battery comes already charged, but I can confirm the BMW charger also charges if from the aux socket.

Im happy now.:beerjug:

Yes
You take the rear wheel out and the air shock and the battery goes through the rear shock's empty space upwards.Thats the only way.
Polarities are the same.
It takes long for the first time cause the instructions are not clear.
IT IS A LOT OF WORK but after one month of using it in weather conditions i would bet that this battery will last for at least 4 years without any serious maintenance and if so it's THE BEST SOLUTION.:D

Oh no! I have to do it again to get the polarities back to original!:nono

By the way, did you buy new nyloc buts for the air damper or loctite?

I've bought an Oddeysy battery and will fit it over the holiday period, I won't be buying any nylok nuts for the Air damper as I have bought an Ohlin shock which should do nicely...

AndyT

ps. I must remember to check polarities though:thumb

Holy smoke 4.5 hours to install a battery :blast I bought the oddesy battery but it might be outside the bike a bit longer until I find time to do this :D

Yeah its a pain in the arse the 1st time. I'll let you know how long it will take the 2nd time, but I reckon it will be 2 hours. The hardest thing is decipering the instructions and working out how to get the battery in. Hence my added instruction for removing the cable ties from the mudguard. It makes it easier.

By the way, did you buy new nyloc buts for the air damper or loctite?

What nyloc buts?If you mean the air shock i just put it back as it was.If you mean the air pump i don't know,i don't keep it on the bike anyway.
