Replacement bottle jack

I have a Clarke CML4 Scissor lift (400kgs capacity) where the bottle jack internals have failed. The bottle jack was made in china and appears to be an unserviceable item. I've carried out a Google search for a replacement with little success. The top of the hydraulic ram differs from normal jacks in that it has a hole through the top of the ram to accept a locating pin which locks the ram into position on the scissor jack arm. Anyone had the same problem and found a solution?

This is most likely a seal problem and probably an easy fix

Thanks Harry but the bottle jack used is a completely sealed unit (made in china). The Lift is actually a CML2 according to the receipt which I found and purchased in 2002. ( I could have sworn I only bought it 3 or 4 years ago ). I contacted Clarke's customer services and they confirmed they have no replacement part for it. I asked for a new jack from the current range but they buy them in from China already assembled!
I looked on Ebay and found this unit:

which seems an exact replica but it is only rated at 300lbs. - I couldn't lift my wife with that.
So in the absence of any other comments I think I will have to purchase a standard 3 ton bottle jack and adapt the Lift to make it work.

I'm disappointed in Clarke's I would have thought a replacement should be available particularly since they are still making the damn thing and placing them on their current lifts!

Are you sure that the jack is rated @400lbf,the lifting frame is ? There will be a mechanical advantage somewhere in the linkage system unless the jack lifts the frame directly in the vertical plane.

Its a mechanical disadvantage system - The jack moves through a small displacement and the platform moves through a greater displacement, therefore the jack moves a greater force than the weight of the bike, hence the need for a jack of greater capacity.

Just a thought , but you might try a hydraulics repair company who deal with truck repairs. they could recondition the original ram for you. It may look like a sealed unit but probably isn`t.

The manual lists the parts as replaceable items (tatacml421 for the bottle jack part from what I can tell) and has a telephone number and email addy for parts.....Give them a call
