Quick one for info to anyone who may find themselves in a similar predicament...
I recently found that my pad retaining pin had basically gotten stuck in the caliper. After some careful Dremel surgery and not so careful hammering it came out. In true BMW fashion they could only sell me the entire caliper. I contacted Shaw Engineering where Chris helped me out - the pins (front and rear) on the 658 are 6mm x 53mm which happens to be the same as the rear on the 1200GS. The new stainless steel ones arrived well made and fitted perfectly. Much cheaper than an entire caliper!
Safe travels,
