I've just been checking how easy it is (or not) to replace the various bulbs on the 1200GS. I prefer to try this sort of thing for the first time in clean, dry and well-lit conditions, rather than on a dark and stormy night with my hands cold and wet!

The headlamps bulb access covers are tricky to remove unless you have unusually small yet strong hands, but it's possible. However, getting at the sidelamp bulb holder appears to be a real sod. I can barely even touch it, let alone get a decent hold on it. In fact, there isn't much to get hold of at all, except the wiring of course, and that wouldn't be good. I suppose I could fabricate some sort of tool to get a grip on either side of the holder, but surely there must be an easier way?

I know it's not a critical bulb, and you wouldn't need to change it while out on the road, but if anyone has any practical tips on getting at the thing, then I'd be grateful.

Do you mean indicator bulbs?

Just changed mine from orange lens to white/clear (which meant changing the bulb's as well (clear to orange). Wasn't told that the fittings were different as well... So to save £40 on buying them just filed one side of the bulb fixings down and they slotted in fine :thumb

Getting them out for a future replacement (if needed) might be a problem though. :(

Edit

*By sidelamp bulb maybe you mean the main beam bulb* :nenau

Just been outside for a look at my bike ... I reckon if you stand by the left side of the bike, put your left hand into the gap between the radiator and the headlamp unit and approach from the rear with your right hand you'd be able to grip the rubber bulb holder and wiggle it out.

Reassembly, as they say, is the reverse of removal.

surpose which hand you are.. but the bulb and holder just pull straight out
