I have finally worn my way through the factory fit Metzeler Z8 that where on my R1200RS when I got it earlier this year.

I have just oredered a set of Bridgestone BT023 GT.

I know they are a very old model but because of this , they are very well priced .......in this new reality of very expensive tyres!!!

Any feedback....... have I made a mistake by not going for a more up to date model ???

Also.........my apoligies for another tyre thread!!

My R1200RS came with Z8. They wore unevenly and were a bit ponderous. I went for the Bridgestone T31 last autumn before going to Spain as the newer T32 were not available. They have done about 5000 miles now and I am not in love with them compared to the Avon Storm 3D I had last time. Sadly, since the takeover and demise of the UK factory, Goodyear are no longer making these tyres in France, just the newer Avon ST.
I'm off to Spain next spring so once the T31 are done, I will be putting on some better tyres. Either Metzeler 01 or Michelin Road 6. The RS has quite a long wheelbase and seems a bit sensitive to tyres. The Z8 & T31 seem to steer very slowly compared to the two sets of Avon Storm 3 I used.
The BT023 will feel great after the Z8 but I feel you won't be getting the best from the bike.

The 01 is no longer made. Only the 01 se and the new 02 are available for the RS.
On my recent trip over a total of 600 miles it rained constantly. They are amazing. £380 fitted not cheap.
However at Garmisch-Partenkirchen a company called MITAS ( part of Yokohama) sounded intriguing. Going back to 1930’. Almost 30% cheaper than 02.

Not many reviews. They are big in off road.
Based in the Czech Republic.

I would have no issues mounting Mitas on my bike.....but they are not readily available in Ireland (the road models anyway)

I would also be quite happy mounting Anlas.....but again, not readily available in Ireland

I am getting the BT023 (GT) supplied & fitted for €325....roll in, roll out.

That's at least 100 euros cheaper than the up to date models from the main contenders.

One local Bridgestone stockist (it's the main brand they push).....quoted me €410 supply only for the BT023 (GT) and hasn't come back with a fitted price yet.

Like most things in the Irish automotive industry, be it motorcycles or cars.....all the supply arrangements are through UK distributors......

Tyres are gone very, very expensive.

Well at least they seem to last. On the 02 I lost 1mm over 2000 miles. New, the rear had it measured at 7mm, now I have 6mm. Been anal I asked Metzeler the exact depth. It is 6.9mm. I normally change before it is squared off at around 5000miles.

I am a huge fan of Bridgestone tyres. So much so I snapped up a pair from this parish, last year.

Its been a while since I had them under me, but I consumed a fair few tyres back on my ZX-12. I had the precursor to the GT, stocko BT023 and got satisfactory miles from them, track-day/knee down level of grip and only changed them due to squaring-off through motorway miles.

I do like the stiffer sidewalls of Bridgestone/Metzelers and its a placebo/brain-f*ck of a thing now. I have Michelin PR6 on current steed and they grip etc and I am older/heavier (less ballsy) so I don't push like the young idiot I once was (young I mean, I'm still an idiot).

As has been said recently in one of them other tyre threads you allude to; black, round, legal tread and keep air in mean most tyres are ideal for us road riders.

You have found a bargain price and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

From RI review, he seems to like both models.

So they are 120 Euro cheaper than branded. Personally I am impressed with the new 02, I don't do a huge mileage so I go with what I like. However after talking with the Mitas people I may give them a go in the future. Especially now that the Japanese will bring some newer tech in.

At least I know where to get them if I ever want them in the future. (Freemans.....Clonmel)

With today's tyres, there are no real bad ones. I have just fitted a set of Road 6 GTs on my RT, Michelin are giving £30 back once fitted. So my set cost me around
Why do people who pay anything between £10k - £30k for a motorcycle scrimp on tyres?
Just paid £330 for a set of Michelin Road 6 GTs and Michelin have an offer on so you get £30 refunded. Good deal

I just worked out the cost of bike tyres per mile (5p) is about half of what I spend on petrol (10p).
People will drive out of their way to buy petrol a few p/litre cheaper.

Wow....

I bought a set of Bridgestones and now I'm a spendtrift.

I didn't pay 10k or 30k or anywhere in between for the bike

Bridgestone still make the tyre.......that's good enough for me.

It's called choice? Would a courier spunk out ££££ on top of the range stuff? As someone said "there are no real bad ones". Personally I will try something new. Biking for me is a hobby.

That’s not what I was meaning, the BT023 is a fine tyre and I would happily fit them and many of the previous Michelin PR series, etc, I meant the “no name” Indian/Chinese/Korean/Eastern European tyres.

Figured that out after I'd pressed send.
Soz!!!

Choice though.....it's very important.

I thought I'd try something different. Went with these

CST Ridemigra 120/70ZR17 58W - 180/55ZR17 73W Tyre Pairs

£147 delivered a pair. Cheap enough to hate..mostly commuting so a waste of a Bridgestone really...
