091200GSA. Went in to "reserve" clock said 36 mile range left. Normal driving then bike runs out of fuel after 7 miles. WTF .

Something wrong there - my 08' gsa will run for 30miles normal riding beyond 0 miles range and I often 'dip' into the bottom of the tank before refilling.

Yes my old GSA often took 36 liters to fill I never ran out so don't know what it would take from empty. My 800 GSA often takes 25.5 liters to fill I must try it till empty sometime. Interesting bmw don't give a range now just a count up. I have managed 60 kms after light comes on and counter starts. JJH

Tip the bike as far to the left as you dare. Can you hear fuel sloshing over to the left side of the tank? If so, the sucking jet pump (Venturi pump) inside the fuel tank is not returning fuel to the supply pump side of the tank. A common problem on GSA, usually cured by replacing the fuel supply pump.

Chuck a spare fuel can in the top box and run the bike dry. Then you'll know for sure what the "reserve" capacity is.

That's what I'm doing this evening, trying to find out what miles it will do on a full tank as the gauge is rubbish. It's up to 386 miles at present on the trip meter. The fuel gauge still shows one bar off full with a range of 350miles :blast can't be much further before it runs dry surely.

What is this "reserve" you speak of coz my bike hasn't got one.....the engine just stops when it runs out of petrol and there's no tap to turn on :nenau

As i thought , it surely could not do much more on a tank. 396miles in the end. Which considering it was fully loaded from the Lake District down to Herts via motorways, then the rest a combination of roads around Herts is pretty good going i think. Just a shame it showed a full tank all the way through.

Psssst the throttle is the bit under your right hand!

I don't hammer the engine but do keep up with motorway traffic. ;-)

On any roads with full luggage I'll struggle to beat 45mpg. That's puts my absolute range around 340 miles.

Sent from a widget that can't spell.

Not looked at mpg myself, but i did see mention of 10miles per litre as a rough guess from someone on here, which is not to far off as i put 36litres in it last night

Not bad - the rider's handbook says it holds 34 litres!

At least I had no need to worry when my last "nearly empty" fill took 33.6 litres.

BMW spec it to 90% volume to allow for expansion - it will take 36 litres. Best I've done is 35.6L.
