My 2009 RT had cruise control and appeared to share lots of parts with that of the GS.

I’m investigating retrofitting cruise off the RT to the GS, anyone come across anything talking about doing this?

Forum posts or websites would be good.

Been looking through this one but it’s a kit I can’t seem to find. https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/electronic-cruise-control-installed-gs.845862/

Thanks
Mark

the RT module is a monster - it cant fit even in the cut out of the right side of the GSA tank - no clearance for the forks to turn
it will go under the seat with plastic tray and tools in a skip - but the cable needs a decent 90 degree bend as it comes directly out the left side of the seat

you need the ESAs double socket ZFE as the wires go in the J2 socket of the RT loom - which ZFE basic high bikes don't have - I have all the bits and even an RT loom half dissected but I still think till we can edit the VO to add option 538 (or whatever it is) the software aint going to do its thing

been through 5 bikes still trying to find a suitable replacement to my 57 plate Landrover R1200GS defender, so I have the one option we always needed

2011 R1200GSA TC - horrible, bars vibrate like hell and the heavy flywheel effect means if you open the throttle it tries to do a somersault
2011 K1300GTL - gutless lawnmower, 80kg to much weight, no suspension, heavy steering and the screen blasts everything in your eyes at 30 mph
2017 KTM 1290SAT - cruise switch on the wrong side, can't set cruise below 35mph, it doesn't stop and the suspension is a sick joke
2019 K1600GTL - monster tub of unsuspended, unrefined, out of its dept lard
2020 1200XCA tiger explorer - gutless moped of no stopping and suspension from the same jokers as KTM
currently got some f expensive solution or order waiting to be built - but its active cruise hates to set and builds a gap 150 metres before you got behind another vehicle - and that's after you spend 15 mins hunting in the menus to set the gap as close as possible !!!!!

Love it, I think I would kill myself playing with the menus. Bin bad enough on the twin cam.

I had the 1600gt also and thought its cruise was decent enough. Just a brute of a thing.

So the new one you’re getting is that adaptive cruise that it has?

I had a look at this, and am still convinced its possible

The LH switchgear appears to be the same as fitted to the LC cruise variants , so you would need a cruise + whatever options your bike has (ABS ASC) ?

The clutch would need a microswitch again (as aper the LC variant)

The brake switch's Hand & foot , would again need a microswitch, ( or a feed from the ABS to tell the Cruise system of operation )

not sure if the throttle grip is changed either

The most obvious change i could see is with the cam box that control the throttle to carbs

The Cruise variant is way way different

You would need to check if any of the electric modules control / deal with cruise functions

& wiring to suit

everything is possible , given enough time and money .

wasn't having a dig at you Santa , i know you are very old , and your brain isn't what it used to be . :ROFLMAO:

this is a "perceived , problem looking for a solution "
the solution is a throttle rocker , or more wanking with the right wrist .

Nin's fix is/was £750 .

cruise on the K16 was its best bit of the bike - set from 8 mph in any gear you want - although the manual which is wrong, says only from 20mph !
the retard KTM had to be 4th gear or higher and above 36 mph - once set you could slow it down to 27 till it needed to be in the 3rd gear u wanted !
the old world system the RT has, will be the same better than nothing idea you also get on the K1300 - has to be going faster than 36 mph where upon you can slow it to 33 mph and hope the cameras ignore you - and rant how dim manufacturers can be in the 20 mph limits

the BM active thing will only set after 20 mph and is quite offensive - its the same switch the K13 and K16's get (which is nasty, but bearable and at least its almost in the correct place) but unlike a K16 that instantly set - it wants to argue and seemingly ignore your request to switch it on - I ended up double stabbing it and on the second go, holding the stupid thing for two seconds before it eventually wanted to set - that was super offensive - then the gap to vehicles ahead is so large, every idiot will try to fill the gap - till I guess you end up pulling your hair out... seemed to me the closest set up was still a three second rule - which for the morons on some UK motorways clearly needs to be 1.5 seconds or you'll spend you life dropping back against other traffic (as each sh1t cuts in pushing you backwards) - and again like the KTM, it wants to be in the wrong gear by the time you get it as slow as it goes - I forget it might be you set to 25 then slow it to 20 and then its happier in the gear beneath - which it wont let you use - and even worse - it gives up if the traffic drops slower than 20 mph without bothering to let you know it skived off
