Hi everyone !
So i have a 2021 GS Adventure and a 2023 S1000RR. The GS was ordered by the dealer and the GS does not have cruise control and heated grips. On the other hand, the RR was customized by me and i bought it with all the bells and whistles. Because i made the RR for track only use, i bought racing buttons that replace the factory throttle and cruise control switch and ignition switch, and i have an extra cruise control switch with ignition switch with heated grips, is it possible to retrofit all of that on the GS ? Thank you.

I don’t see why not, it’s a coding issue. A dealer should be able to code the options to the bike, the question is, will they ??

All the switchgear does is tell the controllers over the network to operate the items you choose.

My GS (2021) came from the factory without DRL activated in the main light cluster. It was there but very dimm and the low beam was always on. As I wanted to activate it (I felt cheated by the sales departement) I talked to one good mechanic at BMW dealership and he said he could do it for me but I had to purchase new left grip switch that has the option to switch between DRL and low beam. And then, he said, buy the switch that has the button for cruise control as I can activate that too. So I did and he activated cruise control and DRL option. I didn't want to replace the throttle grip so my cruise control doesn't turn off when I twist the throttle fully back. However, I don't miss that.
So, as you can see, it is possible to be activated but only dealer or the independent with BMW software can code it. It's been done on my bike 3 years ago and it's still working.
I'm just not sure if you can use the parts you have or you'll have to purchase new switch, specific for your bike. My new switch was surprisingly cheap at the dealer (but can't remember how much it was).

The days of having all the bits there but not coded etc, are long gone sadly

Cars , and in some cases bikes are built to order with only the parts & wiring needed for the order

You may be lucky and get away with just retrofitting and coding of the parts, but if its a specific loom or harness that's needed then you may be out of luck

As MrC says, check real oem, and get your vins decoded for options fitted

if you look in the accessories or retro fit option section, of real oem, if what you want to do is in there, as an option, you should be in luck

if its also fitted as a build option you may be in luck too

Retrofitting Cruise Control and Heated grips on my R1250GSA K51 2021.

So, as per my previous post asking about the possibilities of fitting parts from a bmw RR to a GS, i have learned a few things, first of all thanks of your input, because of it i have learned a lot of stuff about the GS and ill make a short knowledge transfer about it.

Looks like the GS (probably the ones from 2018 and up) have heated grips from factory.... every LEFT grip on the gs is heated !! but bmw choose to make it an OPTION to make more money.. so you will need to change RIGHT throttle that wont have heating from factory + you will need the RIGHT command unit that will have the button to activate the heated grips.

The second thing i've learned is that EVERY newer GS has heated installed into the seat, you only will need a cable that connects to the bike and will draw power to power on the seat + you will need to buy the rear seat that has the switch to turn on the heating on the seats.

EVERY PART of the GS 1250 GS 850 GS 750 fits... like they are universal, even the parts from the S1000RR/XR fits... !!!

The ONLY thing that didn't fit was the throttle unit, because the cable was SHORTER on the RR, and the cable is longer on the GS.

So, i have installed a replacement part that add's cruise control, and heated grips. Keep in mind that EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE ACTIVATED BY SOFTWARE, which i highly recommend a member of this group, his name is Giuseppe La Barbera, (THIS IS NOT AN AD, THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE).

Looks like the GS has a racing theme screen, which we activated aswell. You can see the pictures down bellow and im happy to share more things about the GS.

And finally, every GS that has TFT has a built in LIGHT SENSOR. You need to pay for that one as a "light package" but if you don't have it, it can be activated..... you can activate DRL (Day time running lights) And looks like a charm !

Upcoming upgrades are TPM Sensors and Heated Seating !

Very useful information, thank you. One question: when you say "EVERY newer GS has heated installed into the seat...", which year models, exactly? And do you mean the seats have the heating element installed, but need the connecting cable and activation?

My 2021 1250GS doesn't have heated grips nor heated seat (not only not activated, but it phisically doesn't have them). As I wrote previously in this thread, I replaced left handlebars switch and activated cruise control and DRL at the dealer. Left grip wasn't replaced as I didn't care about throttle close cruise control cancelling. Yes, it does have light sensor on lower left corner of TFT and it comes activated because even if you don't have DRL, it has to work to dimm your TFT brightness at night. My Hex EzCan reads the sensor to dimm AUX lights I installed on the bike.
