The forecast today was good, mild temps for mid Nov, 13- 15c today and some sun and no rain/frosts for the last 36 hours and dry roads

So, I decided to do a few jobs early, go to the bank in Ripon and then have a good ride around the Dales on the XChallenge

All started ok and it was a lovely day, grand day to ride a bike and the bike was going well (although I did have a few niggling doubts about the battery)

Into to Ripon - first 2 pics are from there, Market Place memorial and square

Onwards up to Masham, stopping on the way at Tanfield to take a pic of the river Ure and then onto Jervaulx, with a brilliant sky over Wensleydale

Pulling into East Witton, I stopped to take a pic of the green and the autumn colours

Starting up.....................nada, zilch...................then clickety click

Feck the battery is kapput, grrr

Luckily to run out of the village, down to Cover Bridge is down hill on a long, but not a steep incline ..............and there's a good pub at the bottom, if bike has to be recovered

Snick it up into 5th and off we go, nothing and then we try again

After what seems like an age and a long way 4-500 yards - the XChallenge bursts into life - yippee

So a spin around in the road and back home, some 25 miles - rideout aborted

On the way home the dash was showing 14v, but when I got home the bike wouldn't fire up..............battery had fallen to 11v, so well and truly fecked

Hey-ho, not to worry...............there's always another day

The battery on my Xcountry would fire up OK, then down the road wouldn't start a warm bike :nenau

Then it would .... then it wouldn't:blast

As per your other thread .... Odyssey :thumb

Unlike some of your epic adventures, beset with problems and having to overcome arduous challenges..................I only do day trips

Made you look though, Bill:augie

I nearly always look at your stuff JB, believe it or not.

You may be a boring middle class Yorkshire git, but you do 'get it' and I respect you (and that's genuinely not a sarcastic comment :kissy2)

Day trips are cool, and you do them well :beerjug:

Is this love :inlove

+1 JB

That happened to me, just before we went up to the Borders at Easter with Micky.
Get your wallet out and buy a new battery.:comfort

I'll take that as 'a compliment'................cheers Bill:kissy2

Should've bought a KTM 640 Adv....they also have a kick start you know:hide

Well at least the bike looks good.............................................................................................................................................if you like that kind of thing:P

If it's any consolation I had the same problem with my gorgeous 640:kissy2 a fortnight ago at a service station and normally it starts first kick if you get it right.:)

I only mention this because the bastard wouldn't start first kick, nor the second, third or fecking 20th.:tears

By this time I'm ripping my helmet and jacket off in a pool of sweat and can't bring myself to even look at the Austrian excuse for a bike:mad:

The nearby garage has a set of jump leads for £12.99...I have £6.40 in my pocket so limp back to my orange heap of shite,:mad:
I'm limping because a left sided kickstart on a 640 single has sent my legs to jelly.

Just before reaching for my phone:rolleyes: brain eventually kicks into gear:blast

Fuel off, 5 kicks on full throttle using decompresser, fuel on, pull hot start button, roll over tdc and ....BAAAAARP... the fecking hateful, spiteful piece of shite has burst into life and becomes the beautiful machine she really is.

I get home and fit the brand new battery that's sat on my bench:blast:blast:blast

There's a moral for us both there:D:beerjug:
