The good lady is currently embarking on some big-bike lessons having passed her CBT in October and then her theory in April. She's booked up 2 weekends of training, the first of which has just passed and she got on really well which I (and she) is really pleased about. Looking forwards to next weekend and the feedback from the instructor was that she was probably ready for the Mod 1 and only a day or 2 of training away from being ready for Mod2 - sounds great huh!

But then you try and get some tests booked in and there's a 3 month waiting list at our local centre (Exeter)! How ridiculous is that, by the time a test date comes around I expect she'll need/want more lessons to brush up again, what a pain when the motivation and enthusiasm is there right now to get this all done.

Back in the old days (before I got my license I must add) you could book a DAS course which would take you from zero to full "A" licence in a week -doing CBT on day 1, some days of training and then the test at the end of the week, as there was no dependency on passing sequential tests they could book your test slot when you booked your DAS course. But now that you have to pass Mod1 before taking Mod2, there's no guarantee that you'll be in a position to take Mod2 at the end of the week so training places (certainly the place that we're training with) don't seem to book any of your tests in at the time of booking because if you fail Mod 1 then your Mod2 test is a waste of time/money.

I see the benefits of having the 2 tests, but the powers that be really aren't making getting on 2 wheels very easy, are they! CBT - Theory test - Training - Mod 1 - Mod 2. And in Jan next year they're apparently making it even tougher for young people and binning the automatic 2-year "upgrade" from A2 to A.

On the plus side, I may have a few more months blatting around on the Wife's Dakar before she's able to ride it!

Thanks for the suggestion. I also saw Plymouth had shorter waiting times, but considering that on Sunday she was accompanied by another student from Plymouth who's taking his Mod2 in Exeter as they have 4 month waiting times, I take those figures with a pinch of salt!

Padowan , just in case you are not aware , BMW ( in Hertfordshire and Swansea) do offer these DAS courses. You can even sit MOD 1 and MOD 2 on the same day . The trainee can concentrate on improving their skills and all the paperwork , everything is handled by the instructor.

With the delays you mention in your post your wife's skills would undoubtedly deteriorate whilst waiting for a test - she might unfortunately end up with a re-test. The BMW way might even prove to be cheaper.

My son has just passed his DA Bike test yesterday:thumb2. He has done the whole lot: Theory, CBT, Part 1 & 2 within three weeks. He took a few lessons in the evenings and a few at weekends. Tests were easy to get with no more than a weeks notice. Maybe living in the Highlands of Scotland does have its advantages. Maybe you should take a holiday up here for a week or so and she can do her bike test. No 2 Son takes his part 1 and 2 next week.

Wife passed her Mod1 this morning, managed to get a short notice cancellation. Very proud!

Just Mod2 to go.....

My good lady wife passed her Mod 2 today - finally she can now get out on the Dakar! Very proud of her today!

Just been out on our first ride together. She likes the Dakar but has commented how bouncy it is, which I can totally understand!
