Riding with the faster boys..

Still none the wiser why they don't race 'em. :nenau

Judging by the correspondence, they should sweep the board at the NW200, simply for starters.

How does Mr Rossi put it at the end of any tough race, "It wozza very funny, thata race..... my Yamaha it wazza quick but da fattaboy ona'da Bummer-double-you 'e go too quicka... very funny, very 'ard.... ina'da corna 'e is a very quick, totta da quick, very funny"

You keep telling yourself that :loopy

FFS blag a ride on a modern 1000 cc sports bike with sorted suspension, and then do the comparison. Unless you've used one in earnest you have no idea how slow a Gs is in comparison, unless you are off road, or crossing a ford.

I don't care if Philip McCallen is riding a GS... An average 600cc sports bike rider will be quicker from point A to point B unless point A is a field and point B is a river. Stop dreaming that you guys are riding gods its your sports bike riding mates that have probably only passed their tests. :blast

Whatever..... what would I know..?

:blagblah

Thats not far from the reality but there are still flaws in that. Race rep bikes in their correct environ ( a circuit ) are in their element, but even then a more capable rider could be quicker on a GS than a race rep with the same power to weight ratio. In the road environ (which frankly is not a good place for a race rep) the GS should win hands down on most occasions for those reasons quoted above, however you can put two different riders on the same bike down one piece of road and there will always be a disparity because of different skill levels. Otherwise super stock racing would have all 16 bikes crossing the line in a perfect line a breast.

Whatever..... what would I know..?

Certainly not how to present a lucid argument, that's for sure.

Go in peace.

I own an 05 model 1150 GSA and I used to come out with what a lot of people are saying here. I then added a new blackbird to the stable last year and my mind has changed.

On 99 % of roads I can ride my Blackbird considerable quicker than my GS. There is no chance a GS could keep up with a sportsbike (unless your crossing a field)

If you can keep up with the sportsbike then its because you are a better rider than he is - if that is the case, imagine how quick you would be on a sportsbike.

Cheers, Dean.

My 2 pence worth

I bought an 08 GS specifically because its not a sports bike and there is not the pressure to go as fast as the leather clad hunched over heros.

I used to hang out with a crowd like that a few years ago. I was always the slowest. But then the fastest and best of that group are dead.

The 'good' riders I know now have stories of knee down and wheel up action but they have limps, false knees, and metal in their backs.
I love my bike but I like walking and hate pain and hospitals more.

I just dont get the 'my GS is better than a sports bike'. Christ for what I spent on my GS I could have had anything, Hyabusa, any Ducati, even a Triumph Rocket III So if you want a sports bike or any other type of bike go trade your GS in and get one!

Agreed, and may I add that to watch a gsa ridden with style and making good progress is a sight to behold. You can ride with the power rangers all day if you wish but after 100 miles or more you and the gsa will be at your destination first and not looking like an ape with arthritis.

I stomp all over the Chinese custom copies we have so many of here. None of them can keep up with me, I'm a God.

The only rider I've come across here that I'd never be able to keep up with, rides a Goldwing, the guy's amazing. It's not about the bike, it's about the rider.

Have I said I'm a God?

Good.

The roads around here are more akin to a ploughed field, than a smooth stretch of tarmac.

Sure, a sports bike should be quicker, but the GS is easier.
Add in to the eqation the ability to see over cars and hedges, and it makes for more overtakes.

I can't ride sports bikes anymore, due to bad knees (excuse 1.3b), but I do still have a ZZR600.

Many of the guys I ride with have been riding for years, so should know what they are doing.

If I had the self control (and knees) to ride a 1000cc sports bike, then I probably would.

Yeah, Rossi et al are quickest on their bikes, but they are riding gods with talent we can only ever dream about.

I've noticed that I don't get challenged for a race when I'm on the GS. I also notice the police seem to think I must be a sensible old chap, so they leave me alone. I like that in a bike.

What's with all the willy waving over how fast peeps are on the road, I really don't get it

Clearly for somebody it's only a matter of time if they truly ride the way they say they do, or might it just be the usuall Alpha Male Bollox :augie

If peeps wanna trully see how quick they and/or their bike are come and do it on a track the proper way - infact, to take the bollox spouted so far to it's logical conclusion, my Husky SM will take out most but the best ridden GS's at a track like Cadwell and as for a Hill Climb, no contest - not sure what that proves though :nenau

Sold my 08 Blade for the GS, not regretted it a bit!

Someone told me that you'll always be faster than sportsbikes across country as when they are stopping for fuel you'll be carrying on for another 100 miles! :)

has anyone realised that this is in the 1200 section:augie

that kettle and pot is callin:rolleyes:

You GS people make me smile. I'm just surprised no one has trotted out that old chestnut about 'surprising a few sportsbikes in the bendies'.
At least Luddfooter has seen sense

Oh yes, sorry, I'de just looked at his pictures. So there you are then, someone did say it about a GS

I too can't understand all this I can outride an R1 on my GS stuff :nenau

If I catch up a biker I pass him when its safe to do so, if he speeds up to a pace more akin to mine I don't

Conversely when I see someone catch me up I pull over and let them past as they're obviously riding faster than me (but not neccessarily better)

Simples!
