Hi All.
I got me a nice morgan carb tune thing and set my bike like a motormack hero but once setting the idle all was good but when I set the engine at 3tho revs and then back to idle it was out, I looked and saw the right side stop on the butterfly thing is missing so the idle cable bolt has nothing to rest against so its using the cable to hold it open at idle,
I put a small bolt in so the 'adjustable' bolt has something to rest againt at idle but its a but prouder than the left side & think its holding the butterfly a bit more open than it should, so now the right brass idle bolt is only about 1/2 turn out to the left one being about 2 turns out to sync at idle.
anyone have a dead part I can rob the brass stopper from or is it something I can get from BMW ???
apart from that its all good !!!
cheers for any advice
John

Its just a bolt and a locknut, you may need a slightly longer bolt than the one you have and a nut :thumb2

sorry dude, I should have been more clear with what I am asking:blast:blast
the bolt & locknut are still there, its what the bolt stops against thats missing , its a small brass stopper thing, I dont want to adjust the bolt & locknut to suit my temp repair as I dont know what the setting on this should be, i'd rather get the correct stopper thingie if I can & not adjust the stop bolt..

just put a new bolt in there; as for setting it, set the throttle cable screw the same high as the one on the left side coming from the pulley, then screw or unscrew the new bolt until you have no freeplay on throtle cable.

If you mean the brass 'lug' that sticks out of the side of the pulley-wheel, I can't see any alternative than a new wheel.
Be very careful not to touch the bolt-locknut; these are set on a flowbench at the factory and are mighty hard to adjust properly if you lose the setting!

As above i'm afraid - i've seen a few bikes with that part missing. You need a wheel from a trashed throttle body. Pointless using anything else unless it's the exact same thickness.

Is it left or right side - Make sure you get the right type, the early pulleys/wheel are different and you can't mix them.

Cheers Sir Steptoe,
I know I probably shouldnt have but I asjusted the setting on the factory set screw on the right side wheel as it was out anyway after loosing the stopper thing.
I set both sides idle bleed to 2 turns out then used my carbtune to ballance the engine on the right wheel stop with the wheel end stop screw, I then fine tuned the engine by going back to the air bleeds and ended up with them both about 1 1/2 turns out for an idle of 1100.

I am hoping this is going to be ok !!!!
:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

i'm loving my new bike !!!!

cheers all,
John

Hi John - did your stop screw method work? - one of mine has gone missing, and the other is non original so someone has fiddled with it before I got it. Your method sounds ok. Phil

yep did it before my post and the bike has done a fair bit of milage after that,
it's tickover is still smooth & the engine is a lot smoother at motorway speed but im sure thats due to the carbtune ballance smoothing the engine out.
so it worked for me !!!
I have the tap tap noise from the butterfly's that I will get sorted one day but my 'workaround' seems successful.
I did put a touch of locktight on the replacement bolt to stop that one trying to escape tho
cheers
John
