Merry Christmas all :beerjug:

If the ring antenna fails is there any point in having a spare with you?
How can this be used to keep you going, if at all, or is it a recover job?

you can't fit one properly at the side of the road as half the front end needs to be removed, but you can lash it to get you home.

you plug it in and either slip it over the key, or tape a spare key inside it & stuff it under the tank cover.

And is it an internal failure of the loop, as in it goes open circuit, or is it corrosion/oxidation on the terminals through water ingress?:nenau

spare key tape right next to aerial will work if it fails if your lucky...:augie you can buy a spare but with the 1200's you need to strip the whole front end out so it's not an easy swap. Another good reason to buy and HP2 very few have failed on HP's and to replace it's just a couple a screws.

So if your in any doubt carry the spare key and some electrical tape:thumb

if memory serves me right they were anti tamper screws, no barrel of fun to remove. is there a special tool to remove these ?. had to drill out some on a KTM 640 it took ages due to the tapered angle of the bolts

if going on a trip, you might be advised to remove anti tamper bolts and replace with cap screws ( Allen Heads) ... and why have they not failed on the HP2?

will have a look at the spares kit I have but from memory there's new bolts in the packet and they are torx

bolox I'll have to look now...

just had a look

it's a piece of *iss to do on HP probably only job that is:augie

headlight out two torx screws facing forwards (mental note to self long torx drivers into rescue kit)

replacement kit comes with two new screws

part number 61 11 7 651 630 bolts ring aerial thing 61 35 7 696 463

2 x 10 torx

if you go and do the job I am told it is 2 x Anti Tamper Screws
and maybe the replacement one has Torx so you can change it in the field

So i am told by a mvw mechanic

It's very easy to do a temporary repair until you can find the time to do the job as a permanent repair. As has been previously stated, remove the electrical connection plug from the faulty unit and connect to spare unit. Strap the new unit to the headstock. Strap your spare key to the new unit. Job done. You can sometimes get away with not using the spare key. Only problem is you've lost your security unless you remove both keys when you park up.

get them out

Try and centre punch the bolt
Drill head off Bolt or get stud extractor
it takes a long time

any better way ?

About £93.00

it's less than that I got one it was closer to £30 plus some stupid bit of plastic whichwas £7 and I've lost anyway

the whole lot in the parts diagram is £90 but your more than likley only going to need the screws, that stupid plast bit with the square on ti and the aerial bit.

8 7 +6 is all you need 90% of the time
