Just got back from a 3 dayer up to the 'ring. Weather was so bad on the way that even with full waterproofs, EVERYTHING got soaked.

The weather cleared on the 2nd day and we set about getting things dry enough to ride in.

My boots were buggered - like someone had thrown them in a lake! I toddled off to Koblenz and bought a new pair, 46 Euros, from Louis Gigastore (a bit like Heine Gericke, but more German!)... and then toddled into Cochem for a traditional German lunch.

Then a fantastic ride from Cochem to the 'Ring on the B258 - (if you haven't then you should) before arriving at the Nordschleife for a 5.30 evening 'Tourist' session.

I've done the 'Ring a few times in the past, never tried to go fast, just had a bit of a laugh. Mad German buggers in tricked up Porches howling round the outside of you when your mid-way through a corner and all manner of petrol related madness - great fun! The old GS was a real hoot round the track and I actually managed to OVERTAKE a couple of cars! A great trip overall. My two companions were on an R1 and a Sprint ST - neither could keep up in the bendy stuff and even when thrashing along the straights, the GS would easily pull away.

950 miles over 3 days.
1 lap of the Ring (closed early after an accident)
Too many sausages.
1 pair of budget boots.

I'll be going back!

Stayed here, 2 nights, two rooms, three people, 190 euros

Did you notice the speed you were hitting on the ring?

Nice btw, looks like a blast :thumb2

I had my hands full to be honest, so no time to look at the clock until the final straight. GS peaked at around 115mph but I reckon on a second attempt there's a possibility that I would have timed the gear changes more effectively and got it up a little more. Great fun!!

Hey hey :D

And you got home without loosing any panniers .... :D

:beerjug:

Nice one Nev

Good to see you are riding the old Gal the way she is used to being ridden :thumby:
