What y'all think about cutting out a square on exhaust, removing the cat stuff and welding cut out back on.
Gasses will then flow down headers in to a large chamber before going to silencer.
Has anyone done this?
Y'all forsee any problems with this.
Cheers

I haven't done it myself but there are lots off people out there that done this operation . If you are a little welder guru then is a straight forward job.
Go ahead , it will not damage absolutely anything :thumb

it can be done easy enough , but why not just replace it and keep the OE one to put back on when you forward the baike:thumb

Silly question, but:

Why?

Bike already has more power than you need.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

It's up to you how you do it but it's more invisible if you cut the end off underneath the strap. Once put back together the weld can't be seen, it's probably easier to remove the guts that way as well.

Cheers marki.
Have you done this?
My concern is that with the large chamber i will loose low down response.
Tks

No personally I haven't done it but a few round here have done it the way I described. The large chamber doesn't seem to make any odds to performance or at least it is better than having the cat in place. I bought a second hand set of Remus headers instead of cutting and welding but only because I got them for a good price.

Good advice.

Read this weekend in DT motoring supplement that the latest MOT legislation requires all original emissions reduction equipment to remain in place

You sure? My 1200GSA went through the MOT with Keihan headers and Beowulf can and teh tester thought it sounded great:D

It was in an answer in the Honest John column so have no idea if it also refers to motorcycles

You might well be correct and if you are it will be for new bikes produced on or after the legislation was passed or comes into force. That said I haven't heard of this and there still isn't an emission test for bikes so how would it be enforced? Could this be a car related requirement?

It's not usually done to gain more horsepower, in my case I did it to make it run better, smoother, more even, less harshness in the revs..................and mine does another 7 mpg without the cat. If it had stayed as it was I would have sold it 5 years ago, now it's here for life!

Must admit, i've got the GSA screen on mine and this reflects the noise down to me. It gets a little wearnig after a while!
