Road Pilot 3,s

Hi,Has anyone had any experience of Michelin road pilot 3,s on a 1200 gsa?
Thanks:)

Have them on mine, but only for about 150km of city riding. I know there are other threads on these though and people seem to swear by them....

About a 1000 miles in to a set. They seem fine. Seem to be a bit skittery when cold but maybe that's just me.

I've just posted a new thread not realising this one existed! http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=297123

I'm hoping I'll adjust and get used to them but first impressions are - scary!!!! Cost me £220 for the pair fitted, special offer during March from Mitchelin where they pay the cost of fitting saving £50. So the full price would have been £270 fitted.

I don't like the look of them compared to my Metzelers which looked right for the bike! Pilots have very sharp steering, seems to want to lean the moment you "think" bend! Requires confidence building again because with the rate the bike now leans quickly you think you could fall off! More consentration required as a slight twitch of the handlebars and you're accross the otherside of your lane

I've paid my money, only done 37 miles on them so will have to get used to them but they changed my ride for the worse! Might go back to Metzelers next time - we'll see!!

Its interesting to hear how the bike "feels" with different tyres . I am sure they all grip more than the majority are able to push them but confidence is very important to most of us.
For the record I could never get on with the original PR a few years back, never ran out of grip but didnt like the way the bike felt. Have Bridgestone BT23 on at the moment and my only concern is that I might just get too confident as they feel just fine and I know their capabilities are far better than mine and that just may lead me to take advantage and overdo it, but lets hope not.

I think switching from Dual Purpose to Road Tyres is generally gonna result in quicker steering as they tend to have steeper profiles.

The upside is probably bigger footprint and better rubber to groove ratio (and unlike the Tourances is does not look like you can ride of the edge of the front tyre)

I am not so bothered about looks, which is handy as the Roadsmarts also do not look as "in keeping" with the rest of the motorcyle, if the GS was listed like an old house you would never get planning to fit these things.

, only done 37 miles on them

They are not even scrubbed in properly yet! Check the pressures, do a few more miles and report back.

Opinions .....

Just shows you opinions - bit like belly buttons everyones got one but they're all different.

I had Originalnal PR's on my 1100 gs did 11k on them absolutely loved them really confidence inspiring, just put some bt23's on it and god does it feel twitchy hopefully i'll get used to it but wish i'd just put PR's back on it rather irritatingly I paid £70 more for the bridgestones.

........and that's exactly what most people want from a tyre.

This has got to be a wind up, surely?

I had a set of these fitted last week... I've done a couple of hundred miles on them so far.... They do need scrubbing in before you can notice the benifit.... The tyres are so much better than my previous ones.... (Battlaxes though!!) Most of my mileage has been in the wet... I had one dry day and WoW the grip and handling was sooo much better than before.... no understeer .... The bike came out of corners somewhere where I intended it to... which is always a bonus....
They get a thumbs up from me:thumb2

... and yes £270 fitted seems to be the figure..

Just scrubbed in a set of pr3's on my GSA.

Prefered the exp's tbh. :blast

If anyone wants to make me a sensible offer for the pair- they've done less than 200 miles and are a week old. :beerjug:

had a pair fitted a few weeks back,i did 1,600 miles round scotland i ride a little enthusiastically :D and at some angles they seemed as if they were gripping then letting go then gripping again....ive tryed them but its back to the tourances for me :)

Was the rear wheel feeling like that?

Just changed my annakee 2s after 7k miles to RP 3s today. The Annakees were good but heard so many good reports about the RP 3s I thought I'd give them a go. Initial thoughts are good and will report back once I get a few hundred miles on them. I'll test them on a run to Applecross at the weekend if the weather holds.:flag

I had them fitted to my new bike before I picked it up. I think they're fantastic. Having said that the Avon Storms that I had on my previous GS were almost as good.
The only downside so far is that having got a big puncture (too big to plug fully) in France, no one there could find a replacement  and I had to have the bike recovered back to the UK.

Had my p3's on for almost 5000miles now, yes I wondered if I had done the right thing as they make the bike feel like it wants to lean very quickly! I got used to it very quickly and they are excellent! Only down side is the rear tyre treads have worn feathered but I intend changing them soon for Tourances anyway for morocco. Intend keeping the front p3 as it is still has a perfect profile and a lot of tread left. When the Tourances have worn out I will buy a new rear p3 and put them back on. A very good tyre !

Wondering what to fit to my Tenere next, loved the old Roadsmarts on the GS, but may look at PR3's, or maybe go with TR91's just to keep the "look" rather than for any off-road ability that they probably don't possess.

Probably boil down to what deals are available if I cannot make up my mind.

I must admit the reports of mega fast steering interest me as the Yam turns a fair bit slower than the GS and these may help liven it up a bit.

Don't suppose anyone has compared RS2 to RP3 or TR91's yet
