hi all, ive got alot of slack in my rockers on my mono g/s, ive done a bit of a search on here and decided to have a go at shiming them out rather than the clamping and tightning down method, so phoned motorworks today but they said they dont sell them as its not possible to do on this model........:blast. is this right?? they said id have to do a rocker coversion kit for 150 £ ish.
any advice from the all knowing? thanks steve

It depends on the year of your bike.
1985 (I think) onwards are shimmed, prior to that you will need a complete conversion set (expensive).

:blast.again! mines a 1980. any other thoughts, there is alot of movement there and im a bit worried about long term wear problems and is also pretty noisey.......

The early models were shimmed but you can usually do the clamp and secure method,, Later"noise reduction rockers" can be shimmed but don`t normally need them ,?so the clamp and secure method works there as well..

Beware,,, you can strip the main stud thread if disturd to much..:blast

use ear plugs.

motorworks were doing a complete kit to convert to late type rockers. very reasonable price considering it was all new genuine bmw parts.

couldn't say whether it would be worth it though.

my experience of the clamp methods of adjustment, is that the supports move out again in pretty short order and play returns.
other experience tells me that big end float gaps don't make much noise on their own.

thanks rob, i ll give it a go, didnt like the sound of the clamping method, just seemed a bit wrong to me:thumb2

Useful thread - clamping does seam wrong and I've always wondered where to get the shims from. The rattle is now starting to drive me mad ..., but it may be the cam chain:eek

i reckon i have 1.5 mm of slack on two of my rockers, just by grabing them and moving hard up and down by hand they make a hell of a noise:eek: so lord knows they must when the bike is running! seems like the cheapest and easyist option to try befor the chain pete:thumb2

sounds a lot

1.5 mm is mega wide, Clamp it and see,, costs you nothing?.

I used to loosen the holders and pinch them together with finger pressure only ,then slowly tighten them with spare hand..(rule of finger and thumb):rob
