HIYA WORLD.
my gs1100 (96) has suddenly started running rough when under load...tickovers fine..(no ,the throttle cables havent come out of their seats )it has full dealer service history, currently at 66k...at first it felt like fuel starvation,at high speed/revs..but im beginning to think that it may be misfiring...if im doing about 50/60,then go to overtake..ile open it up,n itl start playin up,juddering, causing my speed to drop, forcing me to drop back before i get killed.
Ive read a couple of threads about coils playing up?.but im no sparky.
Any ideas or similar probs out there?
Cheers

yup, recently had same on my gs1150 adventure 2004, replaced coils and like a new bike, tickover smooooooooooth, accelleration smooooooooth .

Completely transformed bike. Cost me £100 delivered for 2 from motorworks

I bought a new coil for my bike a year or so ago but its still running rough - maybe i need to replace the other coil as well - i don't know - but it is a fairly expensive replacement if the cause isn't actually the coils. Maybe you can pop someone elses coils in and do a quick test before spending out £100.00

My bike has been running rough for a while now - slightly stuttery on idle and not as smooth as it used to be so it may be time for some Steptoe treatment.

1100

I think your confusing this coil prob with twin spark 1150's I would change the sparking plus and then the fuel filter and see what happens.

I know you're only trying to help, but your talking about a twin spark 1150 bike, which is totally irrelevant to an 1100. ;)

I had exactly the same symptoms with my GS1100 97 ,running fine pull the trigger to overtake and it died ,local dealer was pulling his hair out trying to get to the bottom of the problem, ended up replacing exhaust with a remus straight through system ,I think my bike had a cat but not sure ,anyway there was something wrong in the exhaust system. Not sure if any of this helps you but the symptoms are identical.

I have seen all kinds of symptoms from cats breaking up internally, blocking the exhaust at times of high flow then moving at tickover etc.

I had a similar problem with mine recently, maybe the same maybe not!

Have a look at a thread I started under the name of low power???
