====

In total 1,900 miles in a week (we have given ourselves an extra day) or an average daily mileage of 272 miles, with a couple of chunky days lobbed in.

We will be travelling in the main on N (National) and D (Departmental) roads, with just some motorway stuff to miss out a couple of the bigger cities and crack off a few miles. If the weather turns foul or we have a significant delay we have back up routes on the 'long days' that will enable us to make up some time and / or avoid needless piddling about in the wet.

=====

Many of the routes could be adapated or changed to suite people coming from places other than Calais, St Seine or indeed Digne les Baines.

Six of us are doing a similar route north later this month having gone south on the Grande Route De Alps, hopefully the weather will be more kind than it was in June !:(

Shinyface ;)

And we are doing the entire RDGA from Thonon Les Bains to Menton in a couple of weeks time,then up the Route Napoleon as far as the Verdun Gorge,then over to Millau for a lap around the Tarn Gorge.

Should be fun.

hmmm .... I'm off 'somewhere' later this week and now you given me plenty of food for thought .. was going to Germany and Austria but now .... I'll just make my mind up at Calais ....

I will be leaving Grenoble on Monday the 8th and heading down the Route Nap, hope to see you Wapping, PM sent. We will be doing the Verdon gorge then on into the Luberon. From there to Vallon Pont d'Arc for the Ardeche gorge then on to Pont de Montvert. From there through Villfort to Langogne then back through Mende into the Tarn gorge. At that point my bike will go into autopilot it knows it that well.
Finishing up in Millau where we head for home.
The weather isn't looking good for the Route Nap next week, hope it changes.

PM'd ya back.

My parents live in the Luberon, lucky things.

Up an unmade cart track, just outside Roussillon (where the red rocks are) off the D108, just before it gets to the tiny village of Les Huguets. The D108 runs south out of Roussillon, to hit the D900 (former N100) towards Apt / Cavaillon.

Lots of nice small towns villages to see: Sault, Gordes, Bonnieux, Lacoste (Marquis de Sade's castle), Roussillon, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Lourmarin etc. etc.

If you have any spare time at all, I would suggest a hot air ballon ride with these guys: http://www.montgolfiere-provence-ballooning.com/index-hot-air-balloon.html Excellent!

I did something very similar a few years ago. Really good.

I meant to do the Route Napoleon last year, again. But I pumped 32 litres of prime diesel into my bike just outside Troyes. By the time I had got it all out, bought new plugs and buggered about it was too late. So I turned tail late the next and went to watch the World Cup rugby, meeting some chums who happened to be over. Got a free ticket, from a policeman. All's well that ends well, as they say.

You wouldn't happen to have GPS waypoints for the first couple of days, would you?

I'm off to do the Route Napoleon and the Route des Grandes Alpes, week after next, and we're looking to cover similar mileages in the first couple of days as your route, while spending as little time on autoroutes as possible!

It's dead easy to plot it out on a map.

I have the whole lot (entire trip) as a single Garmin file, with 10 separate routes.

PM me your email address and I'll send it tonight.
