OK, gave up on the 2610 and the mapsource from 2008 which I couldnt get to work.
Bought a second hand zumo 400.
According to the screen, it has CN europe NT 2013.10 and uk and ireland in it.
The guy bought and installed europe maps.

I downloaded NT 2013.1, free from somewhere and its in my laptop, unlocked etc. Seems to be working perfectly.

Question 1. when I zoom out the map on the Zumo, the map outline blocks go all round UK, but dont seem to appear in Europe. Is this normal ? Do I have streetlevel maps for europe?

Question 2. When Ive made a route eg, Ijmuiden to Laon, and transfer it to my Zumo, which I have done and it seems ok, Do I also have to (on the laptop), select 'maps round route', and transfer these as well ?

Dont want to go abroad and find out I'm working on the basemap (which I have done before with a streetpilot).

If there was ever a love/hate relationship ... its me and satnavs ... in fact, its everything to do with computers.
Help me ... I'm not stupid, I can do everything ... except computing. Its greek and latin and klingon rolled into one!!
Last night I downloaded a thing to open a RAR file... whatever that is? It was a fix, meant to help my ancient 2008 mapsource work on windows7.
It was like opening the gates at calais to everyone who wanted in. Ive spent all day shooing all the immigrants back down virgins cable. Feck!!

You will find that the Europe part of the maps are on an SD card, to access the Europe part you have to go, ..

where too...

Address...

and then select the country in Europe.

The Zumo 400 does not have enough room to load all the maps to the base unit.:thumb2

Althoug having just zoomed mine all the way out, it shows the map sections all over UK and Europe? so is your SD card laded? or has the micro SD card fallen out like mine did once.

When you zoom out to a certain level, the display defaults to the base map. Two ways to check which maps you've got -

A)Tools > Settings > Maps > Map Info. What's in there and checked?

B) Search a location in Europe (remember to change the country setting) then go to Map and see if you've got street level mapping for that location.

I've never come across this one but that suggests that you might not have to whole of Europe installed and it's asking if you want to install the map tiles to support the route and / or an area round about it.

Step away from the computer Den and find a small child to operate it for you.....:blast

Phoned Garmin this morning. No joy. The 'assistant' checked the records and told me that europe was never on it. The seller (who I believe) says it was on it when he had it. When he bought the unit garmin was offering free europe mapping as an incentive.

Ive given-in and ordered an sd card with foreign parts on it.

The Free Europe upgrade offer probably had a time expiry on it......
