I used the MRA navigation app to route to the GP today just to try it out. The route it wanted to use took in a long section of a private road which runs through a farm. I’m local so didn’t use it, same Route suggested for the return trip.

This hasn’t happened with Garmin, which uses HERE to Route I thought the same as MRA?

Looked at the options to make sure ‘avoid dirt roads’ was off.

Any ideas? Thanks

It happens from time to time. With me, it tried to route me through a very expensive looking, private stable yard in Newmarket.

Any route planned using OSM data will NEVER route down a private road ie. ’The Leaving of Santander’ port!!

Was that not a temporary glitch, that occurred when Open Street Maps had temporarily classified the public access port road as, ‘No Entry’ by mistake?

What the OP could also try, is recalculating the route in say TomTom and / or changing the base map, to see if that makes any difference.

Yep, that would seem to be the answer

If initially tagged as a Private Road that is it for life unless a re-submission is made as a Public Access way

I recalled the problem was that it wouldn’t allow people to leave the port at all. Instead it sent them back across the water to England. Then to Caen, across France and to the outside of the port.

What might help, as usual, is if the OP could share the route with us. So we could see the problem properly.

This is the screen shot I took, the bit between the two yellow lines is a private road, Abbotsbury Lane.

and here's what that section of the route looks like on an Ordnance Survey map, same section highlighted.

I wonder if it really is closed to the public, or whether somebody has just slapped two signs up.

Here is three examples of how routing can differ:

1. HERE

2. TomTom

3. Default (Open Street Maps)

Clearly, TomTom and Open Street Maps work on a different bit of data to HERE.

Google maps has even more ideas:

PS Crazy place nsmes.

It's definitely private, see this screen shot from the List of Streets which shows who's responsible, it's not local authority...

Something's broken, I tried another route this morning, but on the laptop using MRA which chose to take me down a bridle path..

I'll raise it with MRA.

It's not a problem locally, but on a trip could lead to a little difficulty!

Place names, ha, they're nothing, look the other side of the A35, Winford Eagle, Toller Porcorum, Rhyme Intrinsica, keeps us amused :D

Thanks for the update on the road’s status.

MyRoute won’t be able to alter the map. That will be down to HERE (who hang their hat in Berlin, I think) to organise. MyRoute will only be able to alter the way their algorithms process the map data available. As the routes alters depending on whether one uses HERE, TomTom or Open Street Maps, it does suggest that HERE simply doesn’t know that it’s a private road.

There is though a way to report map errors to HERE directly:

Scroll down and select it from the drop-down box. You might well need to send them a GPX file of the location.

I have just noticed that the route offered up to me using HERE on my iPad, does NOT route you down the private road.

IMG_3951.jpg

Here it is:

<iframe style="border:none;overflow:hidden" width="600" height="287" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="https://www.myrouteapp.com/embed/route/7498116?lang=en"></iframe>

Even when I try to route it along the private road, it fails to do it:

This is on an iPad, so it is straight into MyRoute’s cloud based website. Were you doing it on a phone? I only ask, as when I had the problem of being routed down a private road in Newmarket’s stables, it was when I used my phone to create me an A to B route.

No, mine doesn't either using MRA Routeplanner on my laptop (MacBook), it was on an iPhone using the Navigation app. I'd just subscribed to the Navigation app and thought I'd try it out on a trip to Portesham.

Aha, I see you told us that in your opening post. My apologies.

The good news is that the separate navigation app will become redundant in a month or so. The new app (which is just finishing beta testing) does away with it entirely. Everything will be linked back to the cloud based site.

Yes, that was me. I fixed at the time by starting just outside the port.
