On a brighter side, I have just spent the rest of today looking around and searching for a nice GS :) .

I have found a brand new single spark Adventure with a large tank, ABS, heated grips and engine bars for £9000. I am seriously tempted by it but it means that I'm going to have to sell me R6 to get it. Oh yes, and I have to tell the missus... :blckeye

God, I've gone from a £4.5K stolen/recovered bike, to second hand 1150's at £5.5K and now on to a brand new Adventure -all in about a week. YOU BASTARDS!!!:hapybnce:

Jud9e – an R1150GS for £5k? where? and don’t say “RS Motorcycles”!
Don't take me too literally here Pint6X ;) For Low 5K's you're talking private ads (MCN/Loot), currently there's nothing listed under 5.5K but as that is a Y/2001 model and being private they'll take an offer it stands to reason that you'll see ads for nearer 5K for older ones.

Forget dealers showing at £5K though as they'll add £500 on top for washing it and given you a 3-month warranty.

Do it - you know it makes sense - my guess is you won't miss the R6 and your missus should be a damn sight more comfortable on the back of an ADV.

One day, maybe BMW will appreciate the power this website has over prospective GS owners, and may choose to do more than just ring up with snotty messages about infringement of copyright / logo etc.

Mr Tickle - post some piccies when you get it !

cheers - 6X

Index plate

Just in case anyone else is looking did anyone note the index number of this very sad bike so that it could go in the "thinking about buying a GS" thread to warn off any other newbies?

here it is......

This is it. Looks liks W51 MGN but I can't be sure. Wouldn't it be a shame if the police were to find out its dodgy provenance......

My 2d's worth

Funny you should say that . . . I was about to chip in with, "judging by the sounds of its condition and looking at the picture it must be Wreford's bike". Spooky!

very friggin funny.....

At least my bikes in the GS Calendar....so friggin there

oh and that's five times as well, if you count the two Llangollen shots!

This one did come from Park Lane ( it had a Park Lane logo on the number plate).

I was told that the bike had 1 previous owner but that the owner of RS Motorcycles had to personally register it to himself, to get the V5 log book from the DVLA ( but he also told me that it was his mates bike??? ).

I was informed that the original purchaser was from Wales and that the bike was stolen by being but in the back of a van. I do know that the ignition and helmet lock still operated from the same key.

Incidentally it may be of interest to some of you that the law on V5's has just been amended (this month) and it is not recommended for you to purchase ANY vehicle that does not have a V5. Check it out with the DVLA if you are going to be buying a vehicle that doesn't have a logbook ( according to the DVLA 1 in 5 vehicle owners don't have a logbook when the vehicle is sold. I say 68% of statistics are made up 45% of the time hehehe).

RS mechanics

Hi folks
I don't ride a GS, but am thinking of getting one - hence my appearance on this board. Browsing and checking things out I saw this thread and thought I must give my 2p's worth.
I currently ride an old K series bike and I use RS motorcycles. I've been there a couple of times for a service and to have an electrical problem sorted. Each time I've been more than happy with the work - it has seemed well done and reasobably priced. I too have noticed the couriers that use the place and have taken that as a good sign. With the electrical fault, RS diagnosed it correctly and did a cheaper job than a BMW main dealer who failed to pick up on the problem and was talking more money.
I haven't bought a bike from there, and would have to agree that it looks a bit bargain basement, but at least the place didn't try to cover up that the bike you're talking about was stolen/recovered. I know that some of the bikes they sell aren't their own as I've been there when people have asked him to try and sell their bike.
Personally, I'm happy to have somewhere that I can get a service on a K bike done cheap - although I too wouldn't have gone for the bike on offer - sometimes it's better to wait that bit longer and 'or save that bit extra dosh.

Doc

Good to get a view from the other side as it were, and you will clearly continue to use them for servicing because they serve you right.

Just re-reading Mr. Tickle's adventures though - too many unanswered questions - too many contradicting stories - the bike was stolen, but it belonged to one of RS staff's mates - wot ? also the key wasn't there when someone wanted a demo ride - wot ? Also - he wasn't allowed to charge the battery and RS wouldn't spin for £6 worth of oil filter - they resisted the temptation to excel here !

I'm glad someone gets good service there, but this thread has ensured I will be giving them a wide berth in the future.

Hi 6X

I also use a 'hole in the wall' bloke for my car - if you find a good one they can often be cheaper and do a better job than main dealers imho.

However, when parting with big cash for a new bike/car, I'd tend to stick to either main dealers or big players. A shame in some ways as I might miss a bargain private sale, but I like that warranty when spending that sort of money.

Absolutely nowt wrong with them in most cases, and I think we were all prepared to give RS the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately they took this opportunity to act like a bunch of 3rd rate spivs which has somewhat tarnished their reputation on this bulletin board.

Just to add my side of the story about this bike.

I looked at the bike a couple of weekends ago. As discussed the bike needs the tank resprayed, and the front end is a bit of a worry as the touratech 'lock stop' is broken and the bars hit the tank. Also as mentioned before the clocks are off to the left hand side which is annoying when riding the bike.

I took the bike on a test ride and it seemed ok aside from the fact the front brake was hopeless as one of the calipers is locked solid.

I had a good look over the bike and was a bit worried about the engine number as it looks (to my untrained eye) as if its been re-stamped - don't take my word for this but thats what it looked like.

The bike is advertised with a black saddle and with a pillion grab rail. Its currently got a red saddle and no grab rail (as appaently the black one had a large rip in it) Its also missing the puncture repair kit. Also somebody else on this thread mentioned a large gouge on the shaft drive - I didn't see it, so either this has been changed or i wasn't very sharp

As i was interested in buying the bike i did and HPI check on it. All was ok (it is classified as a category C write off as expected (major damage uneconomial to repair)) However the engine number was different to that on the HPI.

Eventually after much thought i decided not to buy the bike so I'll have to wait a couple of yearsa b4 i can afford one. I'm currently selling my VFR and hoping to get a Fazer 1000 or Aprilia Caponard instead.

Just for those who may still be interested the details of the bike are:

Mileage: 20370
Reg no: W161 WGN
Chassis no: WB10415AXYZE10324
Engine no: 0010857GAE

The guys at RS seemed friendly and were happy to let me take the bike on a test ride with no id or guarantee etc being handed over. They were also happy for me to have a good long look at the bike outside and fully assess it.

I think if you can live with the fact its Stolen Recovered and you're confident about fixing the damage (particuarly the front end) this bike could be a bargain. Personally I'm not quite confident enough to take all that on! (But i considered it long and hard!

I'm glad you resisted the temptation - if you want a GS now - 4.5k buys you a very decent 1100 from a number of sources.

So why does the engine number differ from that on the HPI check ? did you challenge this at all ? sounds like it's had a different lump at some stage.....

A Sad Fact !!

It's a sad fact that due to the increasing popularity of the GS, we are beginning to see this sort of Shyte happening.

It's getting to be similar to Jap sports bikes, being knocked off then turning up again "re-assigned" IDs or just plain dodgy history, no doubt secondhand spares will be the next thing.

It's incumbent upon us all to give this sort of potentioal 'Wide Boy' pratice as much Publicity as possible or else the Insurance premiums are going to go through the roof on our beloved GSs'

It's up to us to on top of the game !!

Coolcarbon,

Just to let you know, I think you could have done that yourself by using the edit button and if you were within a certain time of posting the original.

Maybe Paul will now tell me different, but I'm sure that used to be the case.
