Hi Andy VFR,
Like you, I came extremely close ( had the cheque in my wallet ) to purchasing this bike. Right now though, I believe that I have made the right decision in not buying it.
It sounds like the seat has been replaced since I viewed it, as it had a black seat on my visit. The rear shaft housing also had some damage - as if it had been sliding down tarmac. I priced up getting all the replacement parts and they came to around a £1000 quid. For that amount of money ( ie £ 5.5K ), I decided that a second hand GS would be better value. I started looking around for one and ended up 3 years in debt, with a brand new Adventure. ARSE! Still I must say that I am 100% happy with my new bike and that I am glad that I got it instead of the RS bike.
In my dealings with RS Motorcycles, they answered all my questions about the bike and they knew BMWs' really well. He had a busy workshop with lots of loyal customers and they are probably a great place for a reasonable service. I came to the conclusion, that all said and done, this particular bike was overpriced and although it looked like a cheap way to enter the world of BMW, I probably would have regretted it in the long run.
