RT 2011 MU - Any issues

Evskij, why is the 20-30K servicing expensive specifically ?

I can think of valve clearances, maybe fluids ? Just interested in your experiences. Not really worried about consumables such as tyres, and to an extent pads (unless they are horrendously expensive ?). Any bike I buy will be sub 20K miles, 1-2 owners, and probably 2010 to 2013 as Im convinced this is the right model RT for me.

In terms of an update, the bike I was looking at has gone :( , so gonna keep an eye out for another one at a dealers.

Don't forget necessary service and if needed new brake pads, tyres etc. + a years worth of road tax. Allot of these used bikes (especially with high miles) that are at the dealers will be there for a simple reason that mid 20K-30K miles service is bloody expensive and in turn they become part exed against a new bike. I have been told (By local BMW dealer) that is a quite common practice by BMW. owners. Yes you will be getting a 2 year warranty, road side assistance, road tax, service, etc, etc. But do not expect a great deal of discount as dealers have to swallow the cost of peeping the bike for sale. Servicing, valeting etc. However I still think you are getting a descent deal in comparison to other manufacturers.

It is just what Ive been told by the dealer mentioned earlier. Most people start thinking to part ex their bikes at that milage due to the fact that warranty is running out, service milage is getting to the point where more things need to replaced such as brake pads, tyres, fluids, filters etc. So the owner of the bike (for argument sake)who has racked up 17900 miles on the clock starting to think that my pads need doing £70+ for a set (you'll need 3), tyres potentially need doing to £250-£300, 18K service (probably £250+) not sure what is involved but I'm almost certain it isn't just an oil change. So the owner at this point is probably thinking, I had my fun on this bike for the last 2 maybe 3 years and it is time to upgrade. He then goes ahead and places an order for another bike on PCP or hire purchase and lets dealer take his bike in as part ex in order to for them to swallow up the cost of service etc. That is why your chances of getting a discount on a used bike at BMW dealer is very unlikely you might get £100 if you lucky. Because they have to get it serviced (even if it is mid term say at 15700 miles), valeted, prepare all the paperwork, tax it, provide you with the 2 year warranty and breakdown cover.

not sure they will give a 2 yr warranty ,its normally 3 months .Im sure it can be extended but that will be pricey

All approved used motorcycles that come from BMW now come with 2 year warranty, two year breakdown cover, PDI and Service if nesessary, including new brake pads and tyres (Bike must be road legal) and a road tax. plus any other promotional offers or contributions at dealers discretion. I bought my 64 plate GS from BMW and got all of the above bar new tyres and brakes as neither were needed to be replaced at the time. It is much more convenient to buy it form BMW than independent dealers who want perhaps £300 less than BMW would but offer you a 3 month warranty that covers absolutely nothing. I would personally not buy my BMW from independent dealers.

Yep exactly, which is precisely why I am looking at BMW approved only. The only thing I have found is that some BMW dealers tend to be more expensive than others for the RT (Pidcocks in Nottingham comes to mind, which is a shame as its the nearest). Piddy's also have an RT i would be interested in, but they are selling through 'Pidcock Direct', so it wont get the 24month BMW warranty and gets ruled out (which is really odd as its low mileage and they have had/got RT's of that age that they are selling through their BMW dealer).
