Guys

Hi have a 2011 GSA at the moment but my dealer is trying to sell me a new RT SE which with all the bits on looks good deal have ridden an RT and apart from the mirrors being crap, has anyone used risers to raise their hands out of the mirrors, i have also seen RT's with GS mirrors on as extras and wondered if anyone has used this set up and what it was like

thanks in advance

I have a 2010 RT and added extra mirrors similar to the GS ones (got them off ebay but can't recall where exactly.)

It solves the 'problem' of the original mirrors totally and to be honest after the first week of having the new ones fitted I don't think I ever look in the old.

Mirrors

Either solution works well.

I have the GS mirrors on my 2005 RT. Since they are not rubber mounted, they do blur somewhat, but the view is perfectly OK - and much better with a pillion. I have the standard mirrors angled out to act as blind spot mirrors.

Others have been satisfied with the bar-riser solution.

Hope this helps,

John

I didn't have a problem with the mirrors on my 1200rt, once you have the bike you adapt to the awkward position of the mirrors (worked for me anyway), I have friends on 1200RT's who have fitted either a pair or single on the right GS mirror, the holes already there on older models, don't know about current model?

.

I've just swapped my RT for a GSA and there's no doubt about it in my mind. The mirrors on the RT are far superior to the mirrors on my GSA.
In fact the mirrors on my FS1-E were better than the mirrors on my GSA.

You'll get used to the weird position of the RT mirrors, anyway, I did.
I also installed SW Motech bar risers (allthough there is no "bar" as such), and am more at ease, riding the bike with a straight back instead of that slight lean to the front.

They change nothing in my opinion in the way I use the mirrors, but I wanted the risers anyway ;)

Fitting those bulb mirrors is another solution, but be honnest, estethicaly its not looking good. I dodn't mind those bulb mirrors on my GSA, but it would really be a last resort fitting them on a styled bike like the RT.

Grtz, Philip!

What about the rest of the GSA ?

Pleased ?

Difficult to say at this early stage.
When I was riding her home I got onto the A1 & automatically went looking for the screen 'up' button to reduce wind noise :blast so that's something I'll have to get used to. I know I'm going to miss the cruise control as well.

I'm always very nervous of new bikes when I 1st get them - and I'm still very much at that stage at the moment. The extra height & weight have added to that.

But............I haven't been as excited about a new bike for a very long time & although the RT is/was the perfect bike for me I just fancied a change. I had a good look at everything else that was available but couldn't tear myself away from the GSA.

I really need to get some miles in to get used to her & my confidence back but ultimately, what's not to like? :thumby:

I bought the risers to help with lower back pain when doing a full days ride and it has had the desired effect. An added bonus is that the mirrors are now much better and it has made the bike easier/better to handle through the bends. Also fitted two very small stick on blind spot mirrors in the area of the mirror where you would normally see your own hands, works a treat.

Very good, but the RT does have some good points, like the screen

Funnily enough, the GS/GSA needs a ton of mods to get right, like screens/foot flaps/bar risers/seats etc..........whereas the RT doesn't, for the majority of riders

Funny old world, isn't it:rolleyes:

The RT's are great bikes, for sure:clap

Cheers JB.

You're right. The RT worked pretty much straight out of the box, though the addition of a pair of Sergeant seats made it even better.

The seat on the GSA seems a little harsh & I suspect I'll be looking for a replacement Sargeant soon enough, particularly as I'm planning a long trip next September God Willing.

I'll mebbe see you at Cafe Hockley some time (As long as it's not wet/windy/icy/cold.....:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah) :augie

Or Rainbow:D..Not if it's cold and wet though....................brrrrrrrrrrrr:augie

I had a couple of earlier 1100RT's and they were great bikes, just add Sargent seats and ride, no bling or tat needed

Makes me wonder why GS's need so much useless (in the main) tat or essentials like screens to get them right

Guys - you are worrying me now.....

I've done the same as Timaloy and just traded a 2011 RT for a Trip Black GSA - saying that I havent got it yet so still on the RT for now. Ordered it from Jefferies in Batley, never dealt with them before. Always done business (last 3 bikes) with Rainbow in Rotherham but this time they never even came back to me to give me a quote??

I too am worried about the seat comfort - suppose I can always go down the route of Seargent again - have got one on the RT and it is glorious!

Bar raisers deffo on the RT - it makes it so much better for mirrors and comfort - BUT std seat and Wunderlich bar raisers WERE perfect for mirror view but when I changed to a Seargent seat I kind of went back to square 1.

Looking forward to the GSA - pick it up in a few weeks so for now all I can add is that I was a VERY HAPPY RT OWNER but just fancied a change while I was still able to. (Financially)
