So my 79 RT has been ridden on and off during the spring/summer.. it's always had a problem of a badly fluctuating Speedo... It would start as a vague wandering needle then go into a very jolty Speedo that seemed to be sticking a bit...
I've did the obvious things of replacing, lubricating and re routing the cable but it's definitely in the Speedo head... Its ended up breaking the needle which is a PIA...
I've broken the clock housing down and I'd say it's likely the spinning magnet? That goes into the pickup for the needle..
The magnet part and the housing to the needle have lots of play... Is that how they are?
Because the Speedo is pretty inaccurate anyway I've emailed Acewell with no response yet as to availability...
There are 2nd hand ones?
I could mount a secondary accurate digital speedo but I'd want to keep the odometer but not the problem speedo...
What have others done or sorted that might help...Any tips would be appreciated as it's one of the few things to iron out and I like using the bike...
Also if anyone has fitted a different unit with success...
