RTLC ICONIC

Another one having trouble insuring the iconic!! Reading thru the thread, I see I'm not the only one, but seems what works for one doesn't for another as Carol Nash turned me down!!
Like as been said BMW want over 1k ... my renewal for the Twin Cam plus FZ 600 is £294 for both!!
😡

Just replied to your PM on the other forum Dave.
MCE insurance is the one mate.

Had 30/100 for a couple of months now and am delighted with my purchase. A recent tour of Scotland with my wife on the back revealed it to be a much better two up machine than my beloved 2015 GSA. Plenty of admiring comments wherever we went, and it certainly attracts attention. NOT a bike for the shy or retiring.

I have read the insurance woes with interest, when I swapped my GSA for the RT I was with Carole Nash, and despite the fact I had sold my Gixxer 750 at the same time so was going from two bikes to one they couldn't quote for the RT and had to use a specialist broker. Their renewal has just arrived and at £540 with a £750 excess I looked elsewhere, Bennetts were the only sensible quote and they wanted £250 with a £250 excess. So just by shopping round I have saved well over 50%.

I checked my V5 and my bike is a R1200RT LE, and the only mention of anything special is that the paint colour is listed as Bronze. as this is the original colour on the V5 and was supplied by BMW they didn't have a problem.

Just put a deposit on one (R1200RT Iconic),pickup before the end of the month. Can't wait !

I still don't get this.
The option of maybe an extra £350 for the "special" paint job, then perhaps, but £2000+, really?
Nine months down the line when it's worth about £12000, I'd be really browned off.

Then don't buy one, saving yourself that future pain..........

Indeed...

And its not just the fancy pants paint job. We also get a specially covered seat, with 'ICONIC' embroidered on it (probably stitched by Virgin seamstress's) and a £1000 topbox also painted to match.
Money well spend in my book..:D

Whilst some wouldn't be, fortunately, I'm more than happy with the previous BMW top box. It's like new and cost me £280 off ebay. It matches the silver of the RT frame, particularly at the rear of the bike and so, in my mind's eye it's already colour coded.

At the end of the day its individual choice how we spend our hard earned. Love the colour of the Iconic, would love one, but will possibly wait until someone sells one. Wouldn't pay the money for a new one, and this is from someone who paid 25k plus for a CVO Harley, lol, learnt my lesson

I would like to introduce myself as owner 99/100

Picking it up from Vines this Saturday

Just wish I had known about the insurance problems before buying it.
BMW insurance want £839 to cover it for a year.

Guess I may be phoning around this weekend

Congrats and welcome along.

As for insurance, I went with MCE with no problems as they just go by your V5 description of R1200RT LE. no mention of Iconic on the V5.
Just make sure you declare the custom paint job, Topbox, and Bike value.

Sorry, but as you stated on another forum, you don't have a garage or a drive, you have only been riding for 2-3 years, what do you expect? Would be the same if you were trying to insure an expensive car if you were a new driver and didn't have a garage or drive. Best sell the bike to me for a hefty discount and wait a couple of years :-)

It was the total value being over £20K, plus mention of the paint job, that seems to give some insurers the frights.
One colleague was quoted over £800pa, although he pointed out that it was in the same alarmed garage overnight as his precious V12 Aston-Martin, valued at £84K, which cost a relative pittance to insure (£450 or thereabouts, IIRC) but he did eventually get a reasonable price.

Before buying a new bike most people would find out the cost that the insurance was going to be, as in " I won't be buying that bike because I won't be able to afford the insurance ".

Anybody still want one? Number 96/100 was in Williams Manchester this afternoon, along with up to 50% of clothing this weekend, due to new showroom being built from Monday !
Pro Summer gloves £55 ... Bargain 👍
