Painted by 8Ball so I was told.
8Ball are presumably doing rather well for themselves.Painted by 8Ball so I was told.
Found out an interesting fact yesterday, I assumed the Iconics were factory painted, but apparently not, they are painted by a third party shop in the UK. Guess they are painted on demand, so not a 100 of each at the same time. So limited editions are factory painted, but special editions are not.
8Ball are presumably doing rather well for themselves.
The problem is, it's not a "BMW" special edition, like an HP, it's just a paint job, so will not command that much of a premium, if any, over a regular bike.
Not on demand but in batches. Quite an impressive sight of them all being lined up once done.
Highest number I've heard of or seen is 59/100 so presumably the higher numbers to be released later ?
Bahnstormer Alton had GSA Iconic number 66/100 for sale secondhand!
The red/smoke paint job is very pleasing - it reminds me of a 1979 R100RT that I owned many years ago
it's supposed to; all 4 of the Iconics are inspired by different bikes, such as the R100RS, & the RT version is inspired by the late 1970's R100RT.
A local rider here in Glos. had ordered a K1600GT, but then saw the 1200RT in red, & fell in love with it.
After mulling over the sums to change his bike for the 1200RT, off came the K1600 bodywork & off to the paint shop (I don't know which one) & now he has a K1600GT Iconic.
I told him to get a little plaque made - "One of one"
Sounds cool. love to see a pic of that. Trouble is doing that has probably devalued his bike when he comes to trade it in. Unless a private buyer falls in love with it, and pays the asking price.
He's promised to post me some images by e-mail.
I'm not having a pop, but I'm not quite sure why everyone goes on about what a certain colour scheme will do for future values.
I buy my bikes because I like them, & they give me the pleasure of owning & using them.
I really don't give a thought to some future value, at some distant time.
Anyway, here's the 1979 original, in 2013, with a bit of updating & component swapping having taken place.
Still goes well, handles just fine, especially on the new Conti Classic Attack radials, but even the 1984-era Brembo's don't hold a candle to modern stoppers.
My entry to the club.![]()
and congrats on your fine choice.
Come in #84, you are very welcomeand congrats on your fine choice.

I'm blaming Boxed-in, although we've never met his bike has been sitting in our local shop tempting me, and I thought why not.![]()
