Rukka Armas Jacket....Zip Problems !!!

I have had similar problems with a brand new jacket. When I looked at the mechanism in detail it was clear that it was not properly assembled. As the Bouncer said earlier it had jumped a track and did not line up properly. A bit of fiddling and persuading and it is now fine. I can take a picture to illustrate if it would help but it is obvious if you look closely. :beerjug:

Conventional zips in a Klim. So no such user maintenance issues to worry about

Well, I used my brand new Argo jacket today.
I'm not experiencing any problems with the "zip" closure thingy as yet, but I confess to thinking it to be just a gimmick, and nowhere near as reliable, and as easy to use as a zip.
I can't pull the toggle right to the top, for 1, fearing that the the thing would tear itself apart, and 2, because it makes things very tight round my neck.
It also makes the jacket feel too rigid.

Another criticism is the neck flap hitting me in the eye when putting the coat on.
I'm aware that the flap can be folded on itself, but it is still easy to forget, and stab an eye.
If I'm honest, I wouldn't buy another jacket without a conventional zip and flap.

I will persevere with the jacket, but I'm just glad I didn't pay UK prices...

Hi Chaps,

I started this thread and thought I 'd give you a quick update.

Following some good advice in this thread, I cleaned and then applied a lot of the silicon lubricant.

Yes zip is now working well again and does not "self open" any more !!!

So for the time being it looks like the problem has gone away but I am a little disappointed that Rukka charge the best part of £2k for this suit and then you have to piss about every few weeks with silicon

I prefer the traditional tried and tested Zip :thumb

Rukka are apparently reverting to a more conventional toothed zip, but with some clever new technology to prevent leaks, thus reducing the need for a storm flap.

The runner zip type zip in use at present is fine if bods are careful and keep it lightly lubricated with a silicon pen. In an emergency I have used olive oil and on another occasion, washing up liquid. Real life, seat of the pants, self reliant dare devil wot I am.

I've had mine three years one replacement as black was fading.

Had an issue with dry lock when jacket was new then realised it was my fault, think Rukka is Suberb kit.

Prefer my second jacket as neck flap now Velcro not magnetic.

I have been looking for some top new gear just in case my HG Summit Jacket doesn't reappear from it's repair at Hein Gericke. Just hoping that J&S will do the right thing and return it to me when they move into the HG premises!
This string re the problems associated with the Rukka zip has been very helpful in that it has more or less put me off getting a Rukka outfit, the Klim might be one to go for, however I have also been looking at the Touratech Pro system which looks pretty clever although a bit pricey. Does anyone know about the TT pro system that has an inner and outer jacket?

After reading this thread I am glad a stuck with Halvarssons.

Maybe I've been overly critical of the "gore closure system", and of course there must be many owners of these jackets who
have experienced the opposite of my findings.
I can't help wondering why Rukka abandoned the zip for it's premium jackets. Maybe there is a commercial obligation between them and Gore.
I've never experienced any problems using zips on my other jackets, and have never had one break. If I've had any water leak through, it hasn't been any bother to me.
Plus I prefer a flap.

I must give it a chance though, as nothing has failed yet....

Klim did try those closure methods in some previous jacket but found that they were so unreliable that they no longer use them and as their warranty is lifetime not 5 years I guess it's not worth the bother when the conventional zip they now use is plenty good enough

Funnily enough, I was after a Rukka Armadillo (pro shell goretex) jacket on ebay recently, which had the conventional zip and flap, but it was withdrawn.
In hindsight, I should have waited for another to come along.
