Simple event it's open to all as tag along event but to get a finishers medal you need the following.
1x Moped/ motorcycle no larger than 100cc which has to be fully road legal (Tax, MOT and insurance)
1x license to ride the above
1x UK map scale not important
1x Sense of Adventure
1x Some money
the event is a "motorised vagrant" style trip it's camping by any means, or if you can go to B+B's that's fine but you'll need to carry everything you need on the bike. So pack carefully...
Start Point
John O Groats - Scotland
easter bank holiday 2010 TBC
Finish Point
Land's End - Cornwall
After the easter bank holiday 2010
The Start
La Mons style dash
only cos I want to see people run and it's gonna look funny
The Route
Up to you but you'll have to write it up as a trip report, documenting it with pictures etc. Must sees in my opinion Applecross, Lochness the Southern side, Glen Coe, but really it's up to you. You could take a ferry drop into Ireland and back into Wales if the urge takes you that way, or do the Isle of man course....
Time scale
Once everyone's gone from John O Groats the clock is ticking and you have to reach Land's End in 10 days, it's not a Race! Just to clarify it's a challenge... you don't get extra points for racing down and hurting yourself or anyone else. Discovery and fun is what it's about, it's not some some pain fest, but if that's what you want to make of it feel free. (If your first you'll still have to wait for us to turn up with the medal's. We did this trip in ten days earlier this year and it was hard but then we bought 3 C90's off ebay did no preparation what so ever and we just had a go. That's the spirit of this trip, have a go, what's the worst that could happen... (we'll get to that later) Why go on enduro trip abroad spending upwards of 5K when you can have a laugh for a couple of 100 pounds in this country.
Obviously in regards to our trip if you do some prep work you may get further than the 2 miles we did before the first break down happened
The Serious and Grown up bit
This adventure/ trip could be genuinely dangerous it may not seems so but I'm just warning you out of good nature. The weather could be bad... easter will be earlier 2010 pack acordingly. If your an actor need a support truck, or cry at the sight of ketchup on your chips. This trip may not be for you, while this thread is written in a light-hearted fashion, you should not underestimate the risks and dangers involved. By saying "this sounds great, I'll have a go at this!" Trip/ Challenge/Adventure call it what you will. You do so under the understanding that you and you alone are responsible for your actions. If you crash and break your leg don't come running to me about it. We've made this journey and are going to have another go, it's a free country and we urge to you to come along and have a look for yourself! We do not include any group cover this trip is made by individuals, who take responsibility for their own actions. There's a chance of breaking your finger nail and I suppose there's a chance of dying, I've not conducted a H.S. evaluation and I'm not going to, otherwise where's the challenge.
Needless to say none of us got hurt when we did it but tempers did get abit frayed at times. Especially when I pushed one of the C90's 300 yard's to be told it stood more chance of starting with the petrol on....
I would recommend that you take out AA, RAC or Greenflag unless your double triple hardcore then don't bother, fixing the mighty steed with things you find at the side of the road as we did is the way to go....
The Proposed Dates
Easter Holiday 2010
We leave Saturday the 3rd April bright and early well about 10.00AM cos there's tea to be drunk and pictures to take. We aim to arrive as and when at Land's End on the 13th April.
Transport and Logistics support
We can offer some help in getting your chosen mode of transport to Scotland, but this needs planning and sorting out. Which does mean there's a cost involved, I've yet to work it out.
What are the aims of the trip
Well it's for us to have fun, I'm also going to film it as I want to test a few more bits of kit out. If we can raise something for a good cause even better, I've not yet made my mind up who it should support but I think the Help for Hero's is a good cause. (more on that later)
How many people can take part
I'd love to see a Hundred C90's in Scotland, because it would be a glorious sight. There's a previous thread which had over 20 people express an interest so... we'll have to wait and see.
Fees
is there a fee?
Yes this will cover T-shirt's, stickers and finishers medals the usual stuff. Whatever is left we either spend on a good drink or give to charity at the next event. Perhaps we should have a film festival to show what we did... or how bad it got.... I might talk to Bakerman about this... perhaps that could be done at the Hog Raost? It's early days yet.
If your interested let me know.
I'll post a few pictures later once I get a minute
