I remember my old r1150r was burning excessive oil after the first 1500 miles. The master mechanic told me to wring the guts out of it. After 100 or so miles like that there was no more oil burning issue.
IMHO the water cooled may be a bit different than the old bikes with its finer tolerances and less use of ye olde iron in its parts but as was said earlier warm it all up progressively first I reckon it would be fine.
The bit that worries me is warranty. The computers on board record so much now that I wonder if that something did crop up that they could say that it was as a result of not following ze instructions.
