Running In Dilema, trackday or no trackday?

I remember my old r1150r was burning excessive oil after the first 1500 miles. The master mechanic told me to wring the guts out of it. After 100 or so miles like that there was no more oil burning issue.
IMHO the water cooled may be a bit different than the old bikes with its finer tolerances and less use of ye olde iron in its parts but as was said earlier warm it all up progressively first I reckon it would be fine.

The bit that worries me is warranty. The computers on board record so much now that I wonder if that something did crop up that they could say that it was as a result of not following ze instructions.

Wouldn't worry about it. Saw a 250 mile GSA being ragged around on a track day. No ill effects. Not that you notice anyway.

Use nearly all the revs, use 80% throttle, don't load the engine (high gear, low revs full throttle) and most of all look to get and keep good speed through good riding. It will be great for your learning and next time you'll be even faster

I'm sorry but you've got that the wrong way round . You shouldn't use prolonged high revs else you over heat the moving parts which effectively are bedding in . However you do need to keep high manifold pressure i.e. Full throttle to bed the piston rings in and stop any cylinder glazing . A track day would do both so I wouldn't advise it

That's a bit "Big Brother "but you might have a point . I'm sure it's possible for them to record the data

If I was looking to buy a used bike and there were two identical spec bikes for sale, and I had a choice of choosing the one that had been run in following the manufacturers recommendations or the one that had been run in on a track day, I know which one I would buy.
It doesn't take very long to get 600 miles on a new toy, how long have you got?

I would be fairly certain that it is recording a fair chunk of data, now maybe only samples or extreme highs or lows etc so that it doesn't use too much storage. My NAV V shows me the number of times I changed gears or application of brakes so the data is there.

Yeap . It's scary how much data is put to memory

Thanks guys for the advice, track is Rockingham on the infield, so it is quite short and plenty of bends, I will do as many miles as I can beforehand just won't have time for a service, might also drop down to the novices so I don't get in the way. So overall the verdict appears to be go for it! I will let you know how I get on.

Rockingham is probably the best track you could use to run it in as there's no straights . Enjoy .

You don't have to "wring it's neck" to have a good trackday. Short (ish) shifting could be advisable i suppose.

You'll not be spending much time on full throttle i would have thought so i can't see a problem.

Piccys from the day showing your best Rossie leg dangling knee down techniques are expected

The event data log only starts with a fault developing,
Whipping the motor on a twisty circuit is unlikeley to be full throttle all the time,
There is enough torque ro exploit some good drive without max revs,
Many have had brand new bikes dyno tuned ,re mapped from new,
Common sense re tyres etc, assuming ints not your first track day,,

So track day it was, and what a hoot, even keeping the revs down I could keep up with most of the others. The bike handles incredibly well, very stable in 'dyna' mode. Just lost out on the short straights when I ran out of revs and had to change up early. Bike performed very well. Recommend the Bike Magazine track-days, no race bikes just road bikes and Rockingham is a nice little circuit to ride. If you ever feel there are loads of GS's when you go somewhere, try a track-day, there won't be many there, and the GS is a wonderful track tool and such fun.
