Running in service £184????

I am just about to have the 12000 mile service (major) and its been quoted as £500

My mates Yamaha Tracer 9 GT is £100 MORE than my BMW R1250 GSA 2019 for the same major service

I thinks thats a fantastic price

I think you will find its probably mostly Labour charges (must be £80 per hour I reckon)
£322 for 12k
Oil filters, rear drive, air filter, spark plugs, sundries
Valve check done, all OK
Bit far to come to Chester but there worth ringing around if you can

Just been quoted £184 for a running in service on my R1250GS Adventure, does this sound right? I thought I'd read it was about £60 :nenau
I paid £65 for a 12000 mile service on my 2014 GSA

The £65 was for the brake fluid change. Everything else was paid for and covered by BMW when they replaced the engine due to corrosion

BMW even paid for the break in service 600 miles later :thumby:

Chester Motarrad

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
I paid £435 for exactly the same service on my 1250 last December at Bahnstormer.....

Which is where mine has gone today so I shall update with the new price (They are also replacing the rear shock though hopefully as its become very bouncy)

I had a service at Sytner in Shrewsbury (was Rybrook). Their labour rate is nearly double that of Chester. Just for the oil change, the 2 units of labour were £19.44 ex VAT compared to the £10.98 above. Chester is twice as far for me to travel but maybe worth the journey if I keep the RS as it would have saved about £150 on my service. Parts prices similar.

Hour Labour Rate should be the only major variable between different dealers

That’s interesting. I’m at Synter Wolverhampton on 23rd for a 1 year/6k service. I’ll check the labour rate there but imagine it will be the same.

Have you thought about the service plan £790 which will cover the running in service plus three annuals or 6,12 & 18k if you do the miles. You can buy the plan anytime, so as long as it is set up before the first service all will be OK. With escalating costs I felt this to be good value so for the first time ever on a bike took the plunge the day before the first service despite buying the bike in March.

Well not just a compression spring but a whole new rear shock being replaced

Part alone £1400

All for free as still in warranty

I’ve had service plans before with both my Crosstourers, worked out a very significant saving. I considered getting one for my GSA but having spoken to my dealer I decided not to.
The Honda ones I had were first 3 or 4 services. Simple as that.
I was told that the BM plans state that the bike must be within a certain window, for example, cannot book bike in for 6k if it’s only got 5k on it or is 9 months old.
In the past I’ve had to book a bike in 1500 miles early with a 3000 mile plus trip coming up.
My dealer advised against getting one as in those circumstances I’d have to pay again. Certainly worth checking.

i think you have the wrong bike .

what you need is a scooter from china.

your choices are .... cheap and cheerful , and throw it away after 3 years .

or a quality product that costs money to look after , and don't bitch about the cost , it was your choice .

and this boys and girls , is why mechanics should never meet the punters , cos the punters get told the truth , in a way that there is no mistaking what they are saying.

Battersea BMW £175/hr .
175 an hour.....!!

Are they Surgeons or Technicians?!?

Wouldn't be getting my business......that's takin the absolute piss.

I haven't no but that could be worth looking in to for sure.

Isn't the servicing annually OR 6000, 12000, or 18000 whichever comes sooner, if so why would you want to take it in any other time?

Ive had to book in early for the warranty. For example
Bikes at 4500 miles and 9 months old, I’ve a trip coming up that will be 3000 miles. If I waited til I got home the bike will have done 7500, potentially invalidating the warranty on the bike so I’ve had the bike serviced before I go.

I’m certainly not going to waste a day or two of my holiday going out of my way to get my bike serviced.
