Got a twin spark 1150GS 03 11500 miles

Just serviced it, balanced throttle bodies, did own valve clearances, fitted K&N. Running like a dream, span up quicker than ever, smooth, well chuffed........France here I come

Did 100 twisty, hard riding miles last Saturday (bit wet in places but where hasn't been recently) and had the biggest smile inside the lid BUT........

having enjoyed pie and a pint, got on it to do 100 miles back, got to first junction and it conked out (it never does this), several attempts to get it started (I'm thinking....mmmmm what's this about  ). Basically from then on it runs like a be-atch: surging when holding a constant speed, rough when throttle locked off on deceleration, doesn't spin up well...all in all I'm gutted......... :(
It's almost like someone flicked a switch called "shite mode" when I was in the pub.

Any thoughts?

Gratefully yours..........

Plug caps should be first on the menu with a twin spark.

I sold my single spark a couple of weeks ago and it had never missed a beat since new. the new owner got it home and there was no power  , after all sorts of checks and changes it turned out to be a dodgy HT lead  easy to be led astray from the basics.

Good luck

Tim

duff coil packs can be diagnosed by running only on the secondary plug. if it runs ok like that, change the coil pack.

not tried personally, source CW bmw.

edit: should probably put a plug in the HT cap & earth the plug body to avoid damaging the ignition unit i guess.

...or you've snagged the throttle cable outer & it's not siiting right in the adjuster. there's a chance you may find a pic of this condition somewhere on this site :)

Many thanks for advice - will check it out (the following = dumb question :mmmm )....are "coil packs" and "plug caps" the same thing i.e. those parts that attach to the plug bodies from the HT leads?

Thanks

Yes...and they're expensive....about 70 quid a pop IIRC

You didn't kick a throttle cable as you got on the bike with those boots full of beer? :beerjug: Or the TPS?
