This morning after seven miles of commuting my 12GS decided to play up. The symptoms included low idle (nearly stalling but not quite) and over run on the throttle – I would close the throttle but the engine would still be running at twice/three times the idle for 3 or 4 seconds – a little disconcerting. It was also making a more pup-pup (technical term) sound at idle and low revs and the bike was vibing at idle more than usual – I think associated with the low idle and near stall. It was also making small backfires when you rev the engine from idle. Any ideas? I thought it was only running on one cylinder but when I opened the throttle the power seemed ok with no obvious glitches or losses. ???

That's odd. I thought the exact same thing this morning on my commute.

Coincidence?

I had something like this out of the blue. Felt like a sticking throttle, but only on one side. Symptoms were popping and farting and 3000rpm idle! When I got home I stopped the engine and fully opened and shut the throttle a couple of times during which there was a graunching sound from one of the throttle bodies.

Fired it up and all was well and has been ever since.

It's a guess but I reckon that one of the servos that part opens the throttle when cold had stuck open or jammed somehow.

Seems to have cleared up for now :clap but instead the gear indicator has acquired a life of its own displaying mostly Neutral or 5, nice! :augie
