Very early thoughts about a trip I might - and I must emphasise might - do this summer. Just dipping my little toe in the water to see if any others were like minded. Having ridden through a bit of Russia last year and liked it I though I might just pop back.

So - initial thoughts, a route something like this over 14-16 days with a day off in Moscow and St Petersburg. Reasonably long days to/from Russia but not mental! Maybe leaving mid Aug. Keep it as cheap as poss but no camping!

Anyway - be interested in any thoughts

I have been looking at a possible trip to Russia going up the coast to St Petersberg around early September. Hadn't thought about Moscow as I figured it was a bit to far for the trip I was looking at, I fancied a couple days in St. Petersburg as it looks an interesting place. Would want a few nights in Moscow as well if I went which might make 16 days too short but 500 mile days through germany are do-able.

Have you any info on visas (might need multi entry vias as my plan goes through Kaliningrad) ?

In addition to the visa, anyone wanting to enter Russia now has to pay a visit to the Russian Embassy(either London or Edinburgh)to have their fingerprints taken. This only came in in December2014. Politicians playing tit-for-tat silly buggers:(

Having been to Russia twice by motorcycle(1987 and 2006)I was going to go again in June for the FIM Motocamp in St Petersburg, but probably won't bother now.

I'm a country boy, cities I usually avoid like the plague, but, for me, St Petersburg is an exception.

I found doing the visa reasonably straight forward - just book a hotel and they send you the invitation then go from there. Was about £90 I think for single entry but multi entries are more obviously. St Petersburg looks lovely. I really fancy going up to Murmansk and across the top down through Norway. If I go alone then I might do that. Seems a pity to miss out Moscow if you're going that way

That's good to know.

Russia.

I went to Russia and beyond in 2011, hopefully the visa is now easier, ours were only granted on the third attempt.
Why, I've no idea.
One of the guy needed multi entry and that was even worse.
He ended up needing a business visa so as you can imagine it was tricky.
He was retired so got a letter and stuff from his wife's employer.
She sells ladies hosiery, many a chuckle crossing Russia with a 60yr old knarly stocking salesman!
He even had some samples just in case, the Female border guards loved him.
Good luck with your trip.
