I got my 800GS for 1.5 years and have done 12 000 miles so far. The bike is well taken care of and there are no issues so far...except one...

ca one month after I got the bike, I have discovered a rust where the side stand is attached to the main frame (picture provided). I have mentioned it to my Dealer and even it was quite a minor piece or rust, they have changed a whole frame for me as part of BMW warranty.

Now, several month later (but still under waranty), I have discovered, that on the right side of the bike, where plastic touches the main frame, there has been friction of the plastic and the frame resulting that the pain went off and the frame started to rust. (where the plastic touches the frame)

Is this an ussual issue and reasonable wear and tear or should I do something about it?

Any advise appreaciated

I say get a spray can if 'rust guard' or 'rust kill' enamel paint. Give the area a scrap with a wire brush or sand paper. Give it a few coats with the spray can (just pack newspaper around the area to prevent over spray) and you should be right for a long time. This is was I do for scratches on my crash bars.

If you want to go all out (should not need to for this) brush on some rust converter before spraying (see packet directions).

ACF50.

Buy a bottle of the stuff from Chad on this site. It kills rust and prevents corrosion from starting. To be honest the best thing to do is dose the whole bike in it and then just ride it but if you like your bike to be glitzy and shiny then leave it on for a couple of weeks before cleaning off the stuff you can see.

I ride my bikes through the winter without any corrosion problems at all.

The bottles are a much better buy than the sprays http://www.ruggedroads.co.uk/

Can only recommend ACF 50.Last year completely sprayed my R6 with it whilst having it in the UK,rode in the winter on salty roads,in spring sprayed with Sdoc100 bike cleaner and the bike was afterwards in a showroom condicion, didn't find a single place with rust marks.Going to do the same with my gs this year.

Thanks for all opinions

Thank you guys for all your wisdom. I got a bottle of ACF50 and also ACF50 vaseline. The bike got a clean and spray.

But most importantly you put my mind in peace. Maybe I was to concerned about small bits of rust here and there.

Other than that, I really enjoy the bike and that is what the motorcycling is about.

Thanks to everybody once again.

Also for little fiddly bits like this, get a can of black enamel/smoothrite type paint and a small brush such as a thick artists brush. If you get bits like this you can paint over and then ACF it. You will hardly notice and it keeps your eye off it:thumb

Since you mentioned Vaselene

I feel it is time to repost the vaselene joke!

He could not afford a car, so he set his mind on one of BSA's latest bikes, a 250cc C15.

He though this would impress his new girlfriend.

He did the deal, and was getting ready to leave the showroom, when the salesman, having settled things, cautioned the young lad on the quality of modern chrome on the machine, telling him, if he thought it was going to rain, he should smear the chrome with Vaselene to prevent it rusting.

Caution taken, off young lad goes on his new bike, delighted with it.

Having entertained his girlfriend for a few days with it, she is suitably smitten and invites him to come over to her parent's house for Sunday dinner.

He accepts, and the next Sunday she trips down the front path of their house to meet and greet him on his arrival.

At this point, she provides him with a caution: "Just be careful - whoever speaks first at the table has to wash the dishes."

Mother, father, daughter and boyfriend all sit down to Sunday dinner in total silence. Not a word spoken.
He leans back on the chair & peers into the kitchen. Dirty dishes & crockery everwhere, stacked up to the ceiling. They must have been buying new crockery for at least a week. No room for the pots on the shelves. They are stacked on the floor out to the door.

Dinner finished, everything finished, they all sit in total silence.
He decides to liven things up a little, so he starts to grope girlfriend in front of parents.
Not a cheep.
Lifts her over onto his knee, & proceeds to Roger her in front of them.
Not a word.
Finishes off & wipes knob on tablecloth.
Not a word.

15 minutes later, he is in form for more, so he gets up, bends her mother over the table, & proceeds to do a doggy job on her.
Not a word. Total silence.
Another 15 minutes pass, & he is looking out of the front window in boredom.
He sees it is starting to rain, so he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the tin of Vaselene.

As soon as her father sees him unscrewing the lid, he says:

"Dammit, I'll wash the dishes."
