Hello all...I'm looking for a 1200 but how come the 2nd dealer prices are practically the same as new ones? What's a good price for a private 05 plate non-ABS model? cheers :beerjug:

Welcome to the wonderful world of BWM dealer pricing.

There is usually a waiting time for new bikes. Sometimes only a month or two, but it can be as much as 6 months. This allows the dealers to charge almost new prices for 2nd hand bikes.

Your choice is to pay £8955 for a new bike and wait, or pay around £8500 for a 1 or 2 year old with up to 10K miles. But the 2nd hand bike will usually have some extras fitted and is available right now.

Small mistake Ian. If you want to sell or advertise on the site you need to be a sponsor. If you look at the sticky thread in the for sale and wanted section you'll get all the details.

You also cannot use the PM function which is why this reply is in public.

Cheers :thumb

Noticed that dealer used prices seem to have softened but not most private ones :nono

Can pickup an 05 55 usual spec > 3000 miles from many dealers for less than £8500 now. Try finding the same in the privates ads ?

for lack of a better spot to ask this question...

Hello, I am hoping someone in the well-read UKGSer forum might be able to help me or direct me to which govt. agency to talk to?

I am two months away from finishing my European leg of my ATW, and I am planning on selling my R1200GS (bought new in Germany). London will be my take-off location to India, so I figure to sell it in England.

What I am having trouble finding out is the paperwork and tax implications. I have gone to the Transport site (http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm) and there seems to be no problem as far as conforming to standards and such. The question is that I am a Canadian citizen who bought the bike "for export" and hence did not pay the VAT tax. My thought was to sell it to someone living in England, for a good low price, seeing as I would not be looking to recoup as much as someone who paid full VAT on the bike. In the end, I am hoping it would work out as a win-win because the new owner would only play VAT tax on the current value (which we can reasonably make low) and as I said, my initial cost wasn't as much so I am not looking to sell it for as much as normal per se.

But this is pre-emptive of me finding out the legalities and such. So if there is anyone who might be able to help shed some light on what direction I should start at, I would be very grateful.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting... I didn't pay VAT when I bought the bike in Germany, because I bought it "for Export" as a non-EU citizen. I'm guessing I or the buyer would pay the VAT, but on the value of the bike at this time? Or will I have to pay the full VAT of the price I bought it at?

BTW, I agree with you about the GSA. I rode it in Switzerland and I don't see the practical use for it unless you are really going off-off road.

Think you maybe lucky that the VAT will only be on the current value, whatever that maybe.

Found a (main dealer) 6 month old non ABS with h/grips/chrome exhaust and clear indicators for £8300

Another local(ish) one has a year old, 10K, panniers/topbox/ABS/chrome exhaust for £8795

These prices seem very similar to those being offered privately.

Just need to get the RT washed and ready for sale now.

Thanks for the info. Would you know what government agency I would contact to find out for sure?

I know I cannot post a for sale, but at the moment this internet cafe is closing. I will gladly donate and become a site sponsor. I will be selling it for less than the prices you quoted... it's all about sharing the goodness of good fortune. Plus, it's got a few more miles on it.

thanks in advance if you do have info on who to contact in the govt.
:)
