I've been to various bike meets, and out and about generally and still haven't seen one on the road yet. Well in Oxfordshire any wayManaged to get another 120 miles on this morning, and get back home before my wife realised I'd gone!

Of all the bikes I've had, this is the first one that causes a stirring in the trouser department every time I walk into the garage!
I ordered one back in Oct 14. I have since ridden most of it's competitors as well as the 1290 SA. Each time I get back onto my 15GS I just can't imagine swapping my GS for anything else. Well, my XR arrives at the dealers tomorrow and I don't think I want it. If I take it for a test ride I will probably be hooked, dunno. When I sat on the dealer demo it felt very tall and top heavy. I have also read about the vibes and am not keen on that. My main use for the bike is daily commuting through traffic to work, now the XR sounds better for that but how will it be on my regular 350-500 Klm weekend rides?

For riding in town through traffic, it's a doddle, and will fit through gaps the GS won't. Then, get it on the back roads, and it's a missile.
Re the vibes, I don't even notice them now, so they may have gone away. The issue was a non starter for me anyway, as I ride with a relaxed grip.

How often do you lube & adjust the chain ?
Weekly?
3 - but they are all smaller bikes
However I don't lube them with lube, just a bit of WD40 (I know people slate it for wrecking O rings) the night before I go out
Mainly because they operate in mud all the time & lube just makes the grit stick to it - thus increasing wear
The chain gets pressure washed after each outing & re oiled with 3in1 or WD 40
So I don't use lubes
Therefore I have no real experience of modern 1000cc++ 160 bhp road bikes with chains
I just wanna know how labour intensive & messy they are?
Is a Scott Oiler a better option?
If i was going for an oiler i think it would be the tutoro as it seems to work better ( reviews ) however i shall be doing the lube thing probably after every ride its only a little job and will probably go for a grease ninja to make matters even easier. Will probably also just use dry lube when it isn't raining.
Once in a while a good clean with an old rag and some spare engine oil or paraffin still not exactly a huge job is it ?
Chains last well these days with 20K easily achievable even on big bikes !
However that is all irrelevant as the XR has a chain and that is pretty much that and a small price i am prepared to pay
I used a dry waxy chain lube on my last bike, and it didn't flick any crap all over the bike. I'd apply it every 500-750 miles. And every 2000 miles or so, I'd degrease the chain, and reapply a fresh coating.

How many miles on the S1R & how often did you get the spanners out to actually adjust it ?

My Pal with his KTM Super duke has never adjusted his chain and when it needs adjusting he changes it and that was after 17K last time on the basis of when it needs adjusting its knackered
2,000 miles round France last month and neither my 800 or Sue's 650 Xcountry needed their chains adjusting 
A quick whoosh of 'Castrol OR' at the end of the days ride, while Sue got the beers in ... no shit'n grease over the rear end .... result.
JB, the chains today aren't the mucky 'orrible problem they used to be! C'mon lad, move in to the twenty first century

I might try that when I next need some chain lube.
I currently use Wurth high performance dry chain lube, and it's brilliant.
