S1000XR

Well my test today, mix of motorway, dual carriageway, Wye Valley and the forest of Dean, fantastic. Right in every way, comfortable quick, handled. Only have to fund the cash.

I spent yesterday afternoon testing one courtesy of John Clark Tayside Motorrad.

Positives: the engine which is a torque monster; the steering, ride, handling and roadholding with a fast turn in and excellent straight line stability; brick wall brakes; what the quickshifter does, i.e.. allow you to make clutchless changes up and down the gearbox with automatic rev matching; good riding position; nice exhaust note from the standard can.

Negatives: There's quite a lot of vibration through the handlebars; the gearchange feels horrible - it's very stiff and rubbery which may be good in some areas of human experience but not for a motorcycle gear change; it's far too tall - even with the low seat fitted, I was on my tiptoes and any kind of camber or gradient required a lot of planning and concentration to stay upright; wind protection isn't up to GS standards.

Overall it's a fun bike. It is, however, optimised for riding it hard and isn't so accommodating and cosseting as a GS when you're being a bit more laid back and in this day and age, points no longer mean prizes. :(

Well I happen to pay my dealer a visit to collect some HP bits and order more (Thx nutty ) I'm sure I've had the whole HP Catalogue now . They said theres a bike in the back with your name on it being Pdi.

It's arrived early and sadly I'm away tomo for 10 days so it's going to have to wait

I'm a short arse 5'7" so a factory low is perfect .

Nice one Dave.:thumb

Why are you buying HP parts from a main dealer; there's much cheaper places to buy them? I've saved between 25-30% on all my stuff.;)

HP seat and rad guards now installed!:green gri

Nutty,
That looks good, is the seat a bwm extra ?

Prop

Yep, it's the HP seat. I think that stands for High Performace, but it should stand for Hire Purchase, the prices they charge!:P

I've haggled a good discount, and a 5% difference ain't worth the hassle sending stuff back to a german retailer if it's marked, the postage will then out-way the saving .

Hi Nutty
Whats the damage for the HP seat, it looks great.

Cheers Terry

Looks as tho there coming thro with a variety of different tyres, I didn't take note what mine are but they look different to yours !

I too brought the seat i thinks it retails at £300 less any disc

I tested it today as well. I found it vibey from 70 mph up to 80 mph although it's been a few years since I've owned an in line 4. I found it cramped im 6 ft 1 the quickshifter was great up and down overall it's not for me as my GSA is so comfy and quick enough for me with the quickshifter. I can see how the rr riders who want a bit more comfort will buy one though. Now to look for some headers for the GSA.

Just out of interest do the dealers ask for an accident deposit. I know Riders requesta £1000 debit from your card when an accident occurs if it is a small repair you get the remainder of the £1000 returned.

Is this std practice in other shops?

I believe Marshall have a £1000 excess in the paperwork

£250 excess at John Clark Tayside Motorrad and no deposit.

Most dealers will get you to sign a loan bike form with a specified excess. £250 to £500 is the norm. I've certainly never been asked to produce a credit card before taking a bike for a test ride. They're normally waiting for me in the car park with the card machine, ready to take my deposit, by the time I get back though!:D

I had a courtesy bike from NOG recently, was told the excess was £1000, which kinda surprised me.
