As an old git who thought he had finished with bikes, fed up with fireblades, i am fast warming to the prospect of owning a proper
'sit up' bike, the GS 1150 seems to fits the bill.
My problem is trying to determine value , if i look at all the adds in bike trader or e-bay
you see the same bikes advertised over and over again,eg, a 2000 non ABS asking £6 k
I have heard of existing owners who say they have only been offered £4 k for a 2002 with 20k miles bike with £1 k worth of extras against a new 1200 by the BMW dealer
So where is the middle ground? my thoughts were that a private sale bike in good condition, with history, and a clean past should be about 'middle' book (glasses guide)
And yet my example above at £6k retains 80% of its residule after 5 years ?
and the 3 year old model at the dealer looses 50 odd percent?
while i do realise the dealer has to make a living, why are the private bikes so expensive ? I am not having a 'pop' at anyone trying to sell their bike, just struggleing to understand the GS market , constructive comments welcome
thanks
great site,nice banter
