Just rang these guys to get a quote to replace the outer seal on the FD. They want 210 quid to do the job, I politely told them no thanks!!!

I know with the correct tools its a15 minute job, they wanted 1.5 hours labour plus about 50 quid in parts all to replace a 13 quid oil seal.

Suffice to say I have ordered the part and will get steptoe to do it when it arrives.

I am stupid really as I should know by now, they charged me 280 quid to replace the FPC when that went and they told me it wasn't a common fault.....avoid would be my advice.

I'm by no means a brilliant mechanic, but I replaced my own FD outer seal and the FPC can be changed in 15 minutes.

Had my outer seal changed at Beemer bikes in woodford green for £60 including parts, oil, although they did throw in 2 cups of coffee and some gratuitous abuse.... good guys though, not a million miles from St Albans.

Try motoscot in Caddington 10minutes up the A5, send him a pm on here. BMW trained tech with all the tools and good workshop. Very keen prices to boot
