Just joined as have been told it is a good source of general advice as well as, of course, GS info.

I have tried my new Scala Rider with the wifes iPhone voice activation - works well. She has nicked it back! - I can't afford another one so if I get a Bluetooth phone without voice activation, how can I make and receive calls. Anyone help?

Hi Graham, I dont think you'll get much of a response if you close your thread :)

I'll move it over to the right section for you, lets see if we can get somebody to respond to you.

Welcome to UKGSer. :)

Mate youll need either a phone which you can set to auto answer to receive calls or buy a second hand iphone with voice dialling which will allow you to make and receive.

I personally hated it when I had my Scala set up with phone GPS music and intercom, utter pain so I just use as IC and MP3 Player now, having said that my brain will only accept 2 lots of info at a time, any more and I forget to ride the bike :(

Don't know if this helps, but I use my Blackberry (other bluetooth phones are available) to connect to my Zumo (other satnavs are available too) and then the Zumo connects to my Scala. This means that an incoming call is displayed on the screen of the Zumo, and I can decide whether I want to answer it or not.

Thanks for the last two replies. I did synch the sat nav with the i phone and got an icon showing on the sat nav screen (Zumo 660) which showed an incoming call - I think thats what you were talking about - but I was able to answer it by voice activation.
Are you saying that if I got the same symbol come up by syncing another blue tooth phone through the sat nav, I can make and receive calls using the sat nav screen as opposed to voice activation? If so. how does this work - do you have to input a list of favourite numbers or something?

No ...

... how does this work - do you have to input a list of favourite numbers or something?

... the numbers stored on your phone will appear on the screen of your Zumo; well at least they do on the 550 (so I can't think they won't on the 660) then you just touch the one you want.

If the phone supports it the Zumo 660 syncs your phonebook and call history. You can then use the Zumo screen to find numbers in the address book or last dialled/received calls and call them.

I have my "home" number set to be the wife's mobile, so I can dial her in 2 screen "presses" - 1 to pull up phone and the 2nd to "call home".

It also shows you the name of incoming calls if they're in your phonebook, otherwise it just shows the phone number of the calling party.

Just to clarify, my phone is synched to my sat nav, not the scala. The sat nav is then synched to the scala. This means that the sat nav is used to make calls via the touch screen, which shows my phonebook contents or can be used just to dail a number (outdated concept I know :D) An incoming call is also shown on the screen, either by name if it's someone in my phonebook, or number if not. The phone will only be answered if I touch the icon on the screen. Remember to un-pair your phone from the scala to use it this way though.
Very useful if I'm supposed to be working whilst on the bike. I don't generally want to be on the phone when I'm riding, but at least this way I know who it is that's calling, can decide whether to take the call, and can always stop and take it without having to take off my helmet.
