it would be a sad site if everyone posted how marvellous things were with their bikes and nothing ever needed doing

Nail on head ! Nobody posts about stuff that doesn't happen, but they do when something goes wrong, consequently it always appears that the bikes spend most of their lives broken down. In reality it is only a tiny fraction of those on the road that have the odd problem now and again. Ride and enjoy !

Yup, these bikes are so bad...
I bought my 2013 LC so no one else would have to put up with it - I rode it daily too...

I even bought my 2001 1150 gs back from the guy I sold it to - to save him from the bike that's so awful...it was that bad...

Seriously though - there are a few common failure modes, but if you read up about them here, then at least you will see it coming.

These are generally very reliable bikes, that are fabulous to ride.

Read up on the common problems, carry out any preventative maintenance that's deemed neccessary, and rag the arse off it...

went out on mine today and nothing went wrong, well apart from the fuel gauge going down and the milometer going up
