bring extra shocks!!!!

That, and fitting motocross tyres from a kids bike are the only two mods that we saw on two c50's in Banjul that had done the same trip;

We didn't actually see the shocks, but apparently they'd fitted some upgraded ones to these two bikes.

The only other thing they'd had to do for the dsert was buy another 10l fuel can... they had two each and started from Noukchott with a full tanka s well, then made it through with no problems.

With a large support vehicle though, we won't have that problem so much ;)

Want me to write up an artilce for my news site and see if there's any takers in the world.

I'll reach some 200,000 readers, so who knows.... you might get more than you bargained for.

Also, if you leave around the 1st of Jan, and go through whatever city the Dakar is leaving from, you'll have a ready media circus there !!! Easuer to get TV/Media coverage since they're all in town, and looking for 'human interest' stories.

Let me know if you want me to do up a story...

....

7) Pizza boxes…….It strikes me that a large pizza company might well pay a lot of money IF we get on TV if we have their Pizza delivery boxes on the backs of the scoots……..that sort of exposure has got to be worth a lot of money…anyone know anyone high up in a Pizza chain??

11) Food ....

Has anyone else noticed that there may be a connection here

Like a lot of other people, my mind is in gear.....

Erm...Iain........

Day old pizza is fine......and as a bloke who lives on his own I can tell you that even two day old pizza is fine, but 20 day old pizza in the desert??

:D :D

Mike ......that'd be great, yes please!!!
Feel free to use any or all of the info or stuff I've posted on it, or any of the pics on my Smugmug if it's of any use.

The more exposure we can get, the better.....

In particular, If anyone has any contacts in TV who could be sounded out, how about proposing the trip as an ideal candidate for a programme?

(purely for the enormous boost in money raising potential that would provide us ;) )*

Bill

*Although I can actually see the Rev Chuck as the next Ewan McGregor!!!!

I'm would really like to do this 22 days you say... I'll get planning.

You need to know all my field bikes where C90's and knoiw one to get near me I AM A GOD ON THOSE THINGS

I've got the green light from my wife and my work :D

Now, the serious problem for me is how I get back. I won't fly and I'm not too keen on riding back by myself on a C90

If I can get back to Spain I can train it back but how do I get to Spain?

Does anyone know if there's trains, boats buses whatever? A quick google search certainly didn't bring up anything so any (sensible :D) suggestions would be very welcome.

Just one thing Bill....

Orange jump suits? We're going to look like we've escaped from Quantanamo Bay? At least we'll have the Americans tracking us

Cheers

Dick

Dick & others,

It's possible that I'll be bringing at least one support vehicle back, possibly a bit of sightseeing / offroading in Morocco on the way, will see how it pans out.

I've got a second vehicle (Merc' G Wagon 4wd) in addition to the Merc 609 van, so, depending on who wants to do what & fitting in with Bill's requirements there may well be alternatives to flying.
Cheers

That sounds good to me. I've negotiated extra unpaid time from work if I need it and I'll hassle them for more sponsorship :D

BTW Bill, I'll be approaching both my work and my union for sponsorship and stuff like pens etc. so is there an overall website I can point them to that explains the purpose of the rally?

Cheers

Dick

I'm up for it - SWMBO has said OK - work won't be an issue.

I want lots of chrome on my C90 please.

and my wife thinks a C90 won't carry my sylph-like 18 stone frame but that's another matter

Tosser! Will we (pint6x) be needing to sleep in tents??? :hide

BTW My fathers family owned and ran the real bike shop in Crieff. My earliest experiences of riding m/bikes are of dodging police and people on tracks around Crieff that we should not have been on. Ewan who? From C90's through, Ossa's to 350 BSA's and bigger Triumphs.

Wife already said yes. Children are thinking about it, they'll probably say no ' cos they think I'm too old to do anything radical. And church leadership are pondering...

FYI, here's an article I did about 2 guys who did similar trip on a moped...

Alternative Dakar race

BTW, how about giving the ride a name !!! Something to identify it !!

Tossers go to Africa ???
Slowboat to Africa ??

I think Moped Mayhem will be nearer the mark :)

RHD car to donate to the cause, if needed.

Hi,

Well, that's a crazy idea!

If you are interested I have a Renault Espace, RHD, registered in France, but currently sitting unused in my front yard in Surrey. Could make a good support vehicle.

It's an old car ('92) with a bunch of kilometers on it (240K) but it has been a reliable workhorse and used as our family car until last november. Honestly, it's french registered, so nobody in this country wants it. I was thinking about donating it to someone doing the plymouth-dakar thingy, but your new venture seems more fun...

22 days rules me out, which is a shame. Life as a globetrotting wage slave it not all it's cracked up to be :(

You'll also be needing sponsorhsip from Marks & Spencer for that essential desert bike maintenance tool - the underwired bra.
