Scooters IN Sahara Update

It's only 10 days to go

The second Scooters in the Sahara trip to the Gambia is all set for departure on 28th December

The team will be setting off from Dover to Gambia around midday at the start of a 4000 mile trip to deliver 6 Honda C90 scooters and 2 4x4s to Bansang Hospital, Stella's chimp rehab project, Alexander Edwards clinic and Child Advocacy International. More details here

Firstly, a THANKS to all in the GS community who have offered or given support to the trip. The generosity has been overwhelming at times.

The Very Approximate Plan
27/28th December. David Hale will be taking the scoots down to southern Spain in his Sprinter van in advance of the team travelling down through France & Spain in the two 4x4s.

30th December. Cross into Morocco
31st December. New Year in Chefchouan.
1st-5th Jan. Transit Morocco via Rabat & Marrakesh
6th-10th. Jan. Transit Mauritania. Some via desert route
11th-16th Jan Transit Senegal. Stop at Zebra Bar for R&R.
17th ish. Arrive in Gambia
18th-24th Jan Deliver scoots & 4x4s. Maintenance of previous scoots, etc.
25th Jan. Fly home.

Scoots collected by David Hale yesterday, and on their way to Spain tomorrow. Is that man a hero or what?

We all leave on Thursday to rendezvous at Oblertone's pad in Woodford from where we depart at Sparrows fart for Dover on Frday morning. After that as the saying goes...we just go with the flow

Keep an eye on Mauritania - I don't know if the news has got to you but there's some bad stuff going on at the mo.

There have probably been more people shot in Manchester today than in Mauri all year! Not only does the shooting of the French family sound like in isolated event it also occurred a long way from the route the Scoots will be taking. Nothing to lose any sleep over me thinks.

Thanks for the info Fil..I do tend to agree with Ian, even Carmarthen has it's share of muggings (must confess not to many shootings of Late). Are you back or still somewhere in deepest Sahara at present?

The team boarded the ferry at Dover this morning for an 11am lift off, sorry, departure....
Apparently the crossing was slightly (!) rough and Charles (Rev Chuck), that old sea dog, renowned for his love of anything remotely resembling a boat, enjoyed every moment of it......er, not..... ..

Well, the scoots are in Spain. All they now need are some riders! I saw them all yesterday for lunch just south of Poitiers and they all seemed in fine form, if a little slow.

Playing in the snow in the Bavarian Alps till Sat. I'll suss out the situation with the strikes as soon as I'm back and let you know. Got a mate who lives in Rotterdam trying to get cheap flights for us from Schipol as a back up just in case. We'll be out there one way or another
